The State of Book Bans By the Numbers
6,870: Instances of book bans in the 2024-2025 school year. This represents nearly 4,000 unique titles across 23 states.
2,304: The number of bans in Florida, the top state for bans for the third year running, followed by Texas (1,781) and Tennessee (1,622).
881: The number of demands to censor library materials in 2024.
72%: The percent of demands that came from pressure groups and government entities. Only 16% of ban demands came from parents, and 5% from individual library users.
3: The number of executive orders by President Donald Trump targeting books at a Federal level.

BANNED BOOKS WEEK?
Every year since 1982, a coalition of organizations including the American Library Association (ALA) and Amnesty International takes this week in October to highlight attempts to ban and restrict access to books and to encourage activism in protecting our freedom to read.
When it comes to access to books in schools and libraries, there are two terms you should know:
A banned book is a written work whose access has been restricted or removed by law.
A challenged book has been (or is currently) the object of attempts to remove or restrict it.

Also I will never for the life of me understand how our culture considers it fine, normal, non-damaging, even "cozy" to read about gruesome murders, but shameful and/or dangerous to read about consensual sex or the existence of gender identities. It will never make sense.

Remember to fight tear gas, bring:
Heavy Gloves, to throw canister away.
Leaf blower, to blow gas away (very effective).
Heavy traffic cones. Put on top of canister, weight it down if you can, and dump water through top whole onto canister.
Water or saline to flush eyes.
