Rewatching The Fabelmans, I was hoping I’d really missed something but despite excellent moments - his realization of his mom’s affair, Uncle Boris and John Ford - the hyper color grading of the cinematography and the overly precious performances of the leads, like their so pleased to be there…

The Hill (1965) is Sean Connery’s Look Back in Anger. Rather than Jimmy Porter’s windy angst, Connery’s busted sergeant is a man despairing and furious at an order that has failed him.

Quote an actor in the wrong film:

“Not this time, Gal. Not this time. Not this fucking time. No. No no no no no no no no no! No! No no no no no no no no no no no no no! No! Not this fucking time! No fucking way! No fucking way, no fucking way, no fucking way! You've made me look a right cunt!”

Come for Marty Supreme stay for Abel Ferrara. It is a jumpy fast paced piece of work that like its protagonist risks whirling out of control and crashing but somehow hangs on. The real depth is in the margins with some great ensemble players. Chalamet strings it together. Oh & yeah he’s dislikable

I enjoyed Joe Carnehan’s The Rip. He can write smart dialogue and good action. Gets a bit rote at times and not as good as his MASTERPIECE The Grey but still good and Damon and Affleck are fun.

Having watched The Smashing Machine and Marty Supreme — the Safdie brothers have clearly demonstrated who is the best at the old directing game.
