Minneapolis. YIMBY. Bikes are good. 🌈

Yeah, especially if 28mph becomes standard. That could create issues. I don’t even want that, but all the ebikes I want if/when mine dies have that type of power.
wyseapple.bsky.social
E-bikes could benefit from a 20mph cap. There are more types that go up to 28mph than there were years ago, but not as common and 99% of riders aren’t going over 20 on paths.
wyseapple.bsky.social
I think this is a popular opinion. That said, in bike-loving Minneapolis where we have (thankfully) lots of bike infrastructure, this hasn’t been an issue. Ebikes are common and numerous. I can count one one hand how many e-motorcycle types I’ve come across.
davidzipper.bsky.social
My unpopular urbanist opinion is that big, hyperfast two-wheelers are a menace and should be banned from bike lanes/paths (with enforcement).

These things endanger everyone riding a bike or legal e-bike. Worse, they deter some from even trying.
E-bikes have evolved into e-motorcycles. Law enforcement is lagging behind.
Serious injuries are on the rise in emergency rooms around the country, as electric cycles become bigger and faster. Lawmakers and police departments are scrambling to address the problem.

It’s really neat that for awhile pundits like this were saying “why can’t Zohran clearly and directly denounce the violence of Hamas?” and when he clearly and directly denounces the violence of Hamas they go “but he didn’t do it with any poetry! It wasn’t beautiful! I demand panache!”

Ah, let's check in on what the war crimes proponent has to say
David Frum This is a genuinely useful statement. The chilly formulaic language about the 10/7 atrocity ... the intense angry passion of the denunciation of Israel's self-defense ... together they arrestingly reveal what the author cares about and what/who he does not care about.

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.
Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more.
I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.
In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: a death toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language.
I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.
This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end.
Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.
These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity. We must answer it by modeling the very best: a relentless pursuit of our higher ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights.

These are the friendliest looking criminals ever and their jumpsuits look almost like they are high-fashion. I love this for us.

Never been so excited to see my cat poop! She’s been very ill and went about 5 days without eating and 8 days without a poop. But I think the round of antibiotics, steroids and appetite stimulate are working. She’s drinking lots of water and eating again. My poor sweet baby 🙏🏻

I get that the city has spent A LOT to acquire the land and get it ready for development. But you’re not going to recover those costs through a sale. This is a long-term play. Sell the damn thing for $1.
wyseapple.bsky.social
Not sure what the city is doing here but it doesn’t seem like they want to incentivize anything. They are fucking out of their minds including their “valuation” in the RFP. Any serious developer is just going to laugh …
wyseapple.bsky.social
The city published the first RFP for the Kmart site. It’s just for Phase 1 (the SE quadrant). They say the parcel boundaries could be between 1.4-1.6 acres. Apparently the appraised value is $3.1-$3.6 million. At that price, nobody will want it.

I’ve been giving my cat all sorts of meds because she got really sick and one of them I just rub on her ear. I wish they were all like that. Liquid, oral medication is not fun for either of us!

The Strib got a week's worth of text complaints to Metro Transit -- 74 in total -- & published the 3 worst ones. Is 74 a lot? 10 complaints per day for the 2 light rail lines, which see 40K daily riders, seems pretty good to me actually. (.025% complaint rate.) www.startribune.com/metro-transi...

Serious crime is down on Metro Transit, but riders continue to report “quality of life” crime that makes some feel unsafe on light rail.

Spent the afternoon w/Madi Diaz on a picnic bench in her front yard to talk about her new album, Fatal Optimist, for the New York Times. The album is an absolute stunner, bare and brave and completely vulnerable - it’s artists like Madi who truly make this town special.

I don’t think they think making legacy news more conservative is a way to influence people. There’s enough media for that. This takeover is eliminating a perceived problem and putting a hack in charge helps with that aim.
wyseapple.bsky.social
Not savvy on the financials of CBS but I’m going to take a wild stab and suggest their news business isn’t really a money maker. Who cares if they piss of some viewers. The ideological change and take over is the point, right?

Won’t she just fire a lot of those journalists and bring in a new crew? And also use AI?

I'm excited to Bari Weiss to finally get the keys to the cathedral, only to find that there's not a big lever labeled "wokeness" in the control room, just a bunch of journalists doing their job that she now has to manage

Also, the Ewing lot and then all the street parking!

LOL. There’s so much god damn parking in this area. Edina going to Edina.

Edina city staff are recommending denial for the proposal to add a second floor to the current Barrio building at 50th and France, which is slated to become a Daniel del Prado restaurant.

They say the addition requires them to find more parking since it will increase capacity.

I think the weak jobs numbers we are seeing now are just the beginning.

We are only just starting to see indirect effects of mass layoffs in government, tech, now entertainment. So many service jobs are downstream of these relatively stable, relatively high-wage ones.
