An amazing life. My great grandmother was a Zabar, so always felt a connection to this amazing family business (even though there is no existing connection).

One of the greatest stresses is trying to find UBC PhD exam chairs for August vacation season. Nearly impossible. In the future I will just tell the students August is a no go. Ugh.

I'm hiring a Bioinformatics Research Associate for the Silent Genomes Project. PhD required, restricted to Canadians, work must be performed in British Columbia.

Great for those who love pipelines, whole genome data and work with a social purpose.

One of Violet's greatest joys has been to play with her best friend Billy when they see each other on walks. Sadly, Billy moved to Calgary today. Many warm memories. (Billy is on the left, Violet on the right.)

I heard this morning that my informatics colleague Dr. Atul Butte passed after a battle with cancer. He was a giant in the field & inspired many of us over his distinguished career. He was a passionate champion of the power of big data & his impact on our field is immeasurable. RIP Atul & thanks.

Sad to hear that Dr. Henry Friesen, who had a transformative influence on health research in Canada, has died at age 90. He discovered the hormone prolactin and founded the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, among his many accomplishments. www.cdnmedhall.ca/laureates/he...

Really feel for all those dealing with this
