As a human species we need to learn to be active in other ways than merely economic productivity. A UBI can help achieve that.

We need to reintroduce the concepts of “freedom from” and “freedom to”
If you haven't already:

Reconsider your participation on X.
Reconsider shopping on Amazon.
I told you all @jeffbezos was feral. He’s now killed the Graham/Bradlee legacy of justice, the First Amendment and basic humanity in a vomitous spew of nonsense, testosterone fueled (and HGH) double talk that is more than a little pathetic and utterly shameless.

Read what Ford is doing to prepare and navigate us through the coming economic storm.
Then read what the other parties are proposing during a snap election Ford called, to deal with trump.
Just the facts, ma'am.
He won't protect you, strengthen the economy, or fix what he broke.
The lead is narrowing but Ontario seems poised to re-elect the only party with no platform for how to manage an economic war. Tough guy words are all show, no go + weakest plans to fix healthcare/housing chaos they "managed".
Read all about it. And your real choices.

We got a Costco membership for the first time in our lives today. They asked why & I said because treat your workers well, you value diversity, & you didn’t cave in to authoritarian demands. He said: “We’ve been getting lots of folks saying that, thanks for joining.”

Any party telling you to vote strategically for them—without committing to proportional representation—is not your friend.

Let’s end strategic voting for good. Make every vote count!

Gotta say. This is a pretty strong argument. Canadians should KNOW if they're voting for somebody who'll let Trump end Canada & annex our territory. Under FPTP, such extremists can take control of a seemingly "mainstream" party, hiding until they've won a majority & it's too late to stop them.
Donald Trump is a wake-up call for winner-take-all electoral systems.

First-past-the-post inevitably leads to a hyper-partisan two-party system, wild policy swings, and no accountability.

To protect Canadian democracy, we need proportional representation.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Posting this great op-ed on the importance of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

And giving a hat tip to new podcast, Organized Money, from @ddayen.bsky.social and @matthewstoller.bsky.social
Opinion: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has irked billionaires, but it serves the public well
Elon Musk and Marc Andreessen have begun a campaign against the agency, but they're rowing against public opinion: Americans see its value.
