Black Bag, 2025 - ★★★★

The most stylish film of the year. Like Matt Singer I was not expecting "Agatha Christie whodunit but way hornier” and liking it this much.

This tries to strike a balance between family comedy and horror and I'm not sure if either part worked as well as it should. Really wanted to like it more than I actually did.

If Americans don't really do Boxing Day what was the point of moving to Pluribus. Much more inconvenient on 23/24 should've been 22/23 (and yes I know it's really because of Stranger Things but don't get me started on that madness)

Watching the Box of Delights. God. I know you’re meant to say the CSO is shonky. Ha ha. Etc. But it isn’t. It’s very good indeed. As in: you can see it’s not real, it’s VFX, but it works. Matching surfaces in blue screen to the filmed settings is done so stylishly. So much love in the thing.

Most of this year I've constantly felt like I'm at least a day behind where I thought I should be which is perhaps best illustrated by the state of my advent calendars.

AC1: 18
AC2: 10
AC3: 15
AC4: 3

Yes I have four advent calendars.
