School librarian, reader, knitter, lover of live music and hippos.
Who wants to write me a big check so I can open the Young Adult bookstore/soda counter/studio space of my dreams?

Young Adult readers and writers deserve their own space and place. I have the dream, but not the funds.

Who's in?

Monday, and the school librarian is IN. 😊📚💕

The extremist Republican experiment to privatize education & defund our schools is proving critics right.

Voters are realizing the voucher scam is nothing but a naked attempt to funnel our tax $ into the pockets of rich donors.

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

33 years ago today, I drove down to the Multiplex at 10:30am to buy movie tickets, and that night, my now husband went on our second date. We had to be there for the opening night of "Wayne's World." The most fun I've had watching a movie in a theater, and I don't know if I've ever laughed so hard.

Oh, per @nbcnews.com: Quaker groups file suit over the end of policy restricting ICE arrests in houses of worship.

Note: Quakers were some of the earliest supporters of Sanctuary, even putting out a booklet on the topic in 1984 (it's still available). www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

The suit appears to be the first from a faith-based organization challenging the change in court.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it is arbitrarily dismissing student and parent complaints arising out of public schools’ documented acts of censorship and discrimination.
Our response: Book bans are real.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.

THREAD: In 2023, I received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of 1000s of secret files.

It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd conducted a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me.

The combined net worth of America's twelve wealthiest people passed $2 trillion last year.

12 people. $2 trillion.

Meanwhile, U.S. homelessness increased 18% in 2024.

Our problem isn’t an issue of resources.

Our problem is ever-expanding wealth inequality.

1/3 Remember BookmarkED/OnShelf, the "app" meant to "help" librarians with book banning issues?

The creator was, naturally, a proponent of Texas book banning laws so he could cash in.

My reporting from August 2023: bookriot.com/bookmarked-b...
The First App to "Help" Libraries and Schools with Book Bans Has Arrived–It's Not What It Seems
BookmarkED claims to help schools and parents navigate book bans. But where and how the app gets is information is a secret.
