Our sale didn't exactly go as hoped, but I totally understand that people don't have a lot of money to support projects like this right now. That said, fuck it, gonna redo my personal budget in November to start paying for more pieces out of pocket again. We're here for a good time, not a long time.

Corbin is home now. Surgery went well, but they were worried about his hydration levels & kept him for a 2nd night. He has a little onesie (sorry "body shirt" I think is the term) so he doesn't try to lick the surgery area & such. He's wobbly & lovey right now & I'm just glad he's patched up & back

After 8 hrs of no updates, my wife (who is a former Vet Tech & now works in animal ins claims) who is dealing with POTS & long covid let me know that little baby cat Corbin was being transferred to another ER to get ready for surgery, as they think he has a foreign body blockage & she's coming home.
Was just joking last week about being glad that the holidays were coming, b/c maybe there would be a slight respite from all the health issues my wife & I have been suffering from....and then our senior dog had a vestibular event & now our 1 year old cat is having to go to the ER.

Christopher Walken had a wild 1995, showing up in THE ADDICTION, NICK OF TIME, THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU'RE DEAD, yet it's THE PROPHECY that always sticks out in my mind as he primps, preens, and peacock struts his way through every scene
The rest of the movie is equally nuts and entertaining

Been curious to revisit this film since I first saw it at Cinepocalypse in 2019. I just remember that it starts out dark & mean, before taking a left turn into some crazy & gonzo stuff.
Curious to see how it holds up.

I needed something lite & fun to put on, so I'm showing my wife DEADSTREAM for the first time. She's a fan of several Twitch streamers, I'm very interested to see what she thinks!

THE ADDICTION is a movie that's long stayed in my head, even though I've only watched it a couple times. The flow of the dense dialogue, the lighting and b&w photography, Lili Taylor just crushing it, how Walken says "nothing" & "defecate", the repeated power dynamics. One of Ferrara's best films.

In each of the big AI talks this week there's the same line that AI creators tout "xx is not meant to replace traditional actors/directors/movies," to which I have to foolishly ask "then what's the point?" are the AI avenues being mentioned for attention, clout or what? It's all bad & should go away

My brain is confused, as normally I'd be arriving in Austin at this time, readying for Fantastic Fest. Due to not working January & my wife having a major surgery & finally getting a long COVID diagnosis, it wasn't in the cards. Yet it's the friends I normally see that I am so sad to be missing.

devastated for my colleagues today. they, and we, deserve so, so much better than this.
Today, IGN laid off eight extremely valuable members of our union and workforce via directive from our parent company, Ziff Davis. This, after two incredibly successful live events IGN Live and SDCC, and yet another corporate acquisition.

Some highlights from my weekend screener notes:
* Did not have "getting Rick-Rolled by a foreign movie" on my bingo card in 2025
* Did we ever name the subgenre of "lapsed Catholics getting supernaturally messed with because they're lapsed Catholics"?
* Is it bad I want to eat at Buffet Infinity?

This might be one of the biggest things I mention that the community needs to rise up & help. Currently in Kansas City there is no place to see 35mm (or 70mm) & so Screenland Armour is trying to rectify that, but they need your help to make it happen!

One of those absolutely fun things about having arthritis your entire life, is remembering to manage yourself more on days when there's an excessive heat index day (today was 105*) & then factoring in that you have a manual labor job... I won't be moving these joints for the next day or so. Fun.

I've watched several film
screeners & the UNTIL DAWN movie (the wife really wanted to watch it) over the weekend and it seems like 2025 might be the year of exploding bodies in films.
Not sure what that means, but I might have had my fill for a few months.
