When ICE paramilitary officer Jonathan Ross shot and killed 37‑year‑old mother of three Renee Good, a legal observer, on Jan. 7, protests exploded across the Twin Cities and helped fuel a statewide general strike on Jan. 23 against the operation.

He was a 37-year-old ICU nurse, U.S. citizen, and law-abiding gun owner with a permit to carry. He was helping people. Video shows agents restraining him, striking him repeatedly, then shooting him while he was on the ground. This marks the third shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis this month. On January 7, ICE killed Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three and U.S. citizen with no criminal record. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension states it has been "blocked" from investigating either case. Dr. King warned that "history will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people." I am urging you to break that silence. Vote against H.R.4213, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2026, which allocates $10 billion to ICE. Withhold all DHS funding until independent oversight is established and federal agents are withdrawn from Minneapolis. Support legislation requiring local law enforcement oversight of all federal operations in American communities. Call for a comprehensive, independent investigation into these killings and all future federal actions. The Constitution does not permit federal agents to kill American citizens, obstruct state investigations, or refuse to investigate or be accountable for their actions. Please let me know within 10 days how you plan to hold DHS and our federal government accountable. We are not asking you to take sides. We are pleading with you to restore the rule of law. Democracy depends on accountability. Justice requires action. Our Constitution demands your courage.
