All of the lessons that The Biggest Loser taught—from disordered eating to ruthless self talk—all of that came because we culturally thought it was beneficial & entertaining to abuse fat people. Anti-fat bigotry was the spoonful of sugar that helped the medicine go down. It was a feature, not a bug.

I don’t post about it often anymore because it’s boring, but it does happen pretty reliably. I appear on camera and then get a few days’ worth of comments, mostly about my appearance and life expectancy.

I don’t generally put much stock in it, but it’s still a stressful experience.
