How did we go from “The medium is the message” to “the medium is a reality distorting prison” so fast?

We need a new internet whose services don’t turn users into a commodity for commercial interests or the surveillance state

Judge: But that's not where we live (in a monarchy). We live in *response* to a monarchy.

Judge: Makes me think: can president declare vacancy that doesn't exist? If president finds a vacancy, there is a vacancy! If the president finds a rebellion, there is a rebellion! And I try to distinguish in my mind, how is this any different from what a monarchist does?

Watching the real time gutting of the Federal workforce on LinkedIn is both surreal and grounding - putting real faces to the headlines.

As a secondary effect, I worry about the threat to national security and intelligence risks posed by having so much Fed talent all of a sudden unemployed [cont]

Prime suggesting I watch Canadian Bacon, a comedy about a disliked US president who vilifies Canada in order to stir up xenophobia (and leads to an ultimately ridiculous invasion) is a little too on the nose.

"Surprisingly, while AI can improve efficiency, it may also reduce critical engagement, particularly in routine or lower-stakes tasks in which users simply rely on AI, raising concerns about long-term reliance and diminished independent problem-solving"

Is the “surprisingly” meant to be sarcastic?

After 4 days of doom scrolling into the death spiral of democracy, I find myself at peace once back on the hamster wheel of emails, Slack, and internal tools. Blissfully unaware of the play by play of America’s demise while producing value for shareholders.

Late Stage Capitalism is truly sinister

My review of Wild At Heart (1990), as I kick off the project of revisiting the many fragmented echoes of David Lynch films from my distant memories.

I think the last time I had seen this one I was maybe 12 years old. Why the fuck was watching this when I was 12??

Today’s urban East Bay military aircraft count (and it’s only noon):

x1 CH-47 Chinook heading west
x1 UH-60 Blackhawk heading east

Chinook was clearly marked with the bright pink/orange of the CalGuard (CAARNG) aircraft involved in fire response (see blurry photo attached)

V-22 Osprey flying low over my house in the East Bay, which is not at all a common aircraft sighting here

Not sure who it belongs to. Marines? Does anyone recognize the tail insignia?

We all know society and culture peaked pre-9/11, but third spaces specifically peaked in 1999 with the grand opening of the Sony Metreon.

That is a full-on intentional Nazi salute, done twice. Anyone who claims otherwise is either lying through their teeth or thicker than pig shit. ("Throwing your heart to the crowd", right. That's a bullshit fig leaf.)

Look at the fucking smirk, too. "I finally get to do this in public, LOL."
The media is twisting itself into a pretzel to not say “Nazi salute” in their headlines today.

CALL IT WHAT IT IS.

I remember why I never really posted on X/Twitter to begin with: I am incapable of noticing my own typos or omitted words until after I’ve pressed post. For everyone else’s safety I must confine myself exclusively to social media platforms with edit buttons.

Does excessive social media use shorten life spans? I wonder what public health data will show a generation from now. (this post cost me at least 5 minutes of my life)

In this day and age, living in a place that
- you like,
- you can afford,
- you can find a job,
- you have family/friends,
- you feel safe, and
- you *are* safe from natural disasters/bad laws/worse

is luxury and privilege. Almost no one gets to check all the boxes.

So maybe don’t be an asshole.
