There was one I learned of in a posh liberal suburb of Seattle and it existed for awhile —maybe 1-2 years—before some engaged parents learned about it and were able to get it closed. They literally had to go through the building taking down hateful but encoded white supremacy posters. I

DESPICABLE: Van Jones Apologizes for Turning ‘Dead Gaza Baby’ Into a Punchline on Bill Maher’s Show. Actually Van did worse than "joke." He peddled the Netanayhu LIE that the images of dead Palestinian children were just part of disinfo campaign by Qatar. www.mediaite.com/media/news/i...

Wow. Blows my mind that I have been using this incorrectly my whole life. (The same was true when I learned what nauseous actually means but in that case I keep using the “wrong” term and chalking it up to modern usage). Thanks for the enlightenment!

Thanks! I’m not sure I know the difference between those two but I trust you are right; I will look it up and see if I can correct the original alt.

Never thought I’d find myself nostalgic for the days of secret “Torture Memos” being used to justify war in pitching Congress. (Back when Congress had to agree.)
Headline of newspaper underneath photo of Trump at podium. Text says “Trump ‘Determined’ the US is Now in a War With Drug Cartels, Congress Is Told”

Also how many phone numbers does Al Franken have??
I’ve hit STOP and “reported junk” at least twice on that guy, but dems gotta dem I guess.

Seriously though, what’s the conversion rate on these out of the blue texts asking for money for people in random districts around the country??
zahrsaid.bsky.social
Phones sold to Democrats need to come with a STOP button.
(Or …Dems could stop spamming us with urgent texts 8-10x a day from all over the country, also an option)

“It’s yet another way this regime practices eugenics. By refusing disabled people the accommodations they need, they’re targeting them for elimination.

People die in ICE custody every year, but we often don’t hear about them. Their stories go untold, their pleas unheard and the eugenics unopposed”
Help Rodney Taylor, a Disabled Double Amputee Being Held by ICE
Rodney has been in the country more than 40 years. He's in solitary confinement in Georgia, being denied disability accommodations and having his medical needs ignored. He must be released.

For Constitution Day, Santa Clara Law had a great discussion about the "Rule of Law"

SCOTUS time. :::drink:::
Good luck to us & democracy.
We’re gonna need it.

If/when there is another election, we'll see how this is applied to Democrats.

But, of course, this is dripping with hypocrisy from Republicans...as EVERYTHING with them always is.

I want to reiterate that countless conservative judges issued universal injunctions against the Biden administration, and the Supreme Court never halted the practice. Now, barely five months into Trump's second term, the court puts an end to these injunctions. A brazen double standard.

The Supreme Court's conservative supermajority just took away lower courts' single most powerful tool for reining in the Trump administration's lawless excesses, stripping them of authority to issue universal injunctions that block illegal policies nationwide. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Again, depending on what fan works you’re talking about, you’re just plain wrong. Anybody who knows me will attest I rarely say things like that. But you don’t know what you’re talking about. Not going to engage further with you. This is labor for me, and uninformed flame-throwing for you.
zahrsaid.bsky.social
You can start by reading the text of 17 USC 107. Then look for summaries of the case law on line, from, say Campbell v Acuff Rose, Kelly v Arriba soft through Authors Guild v Google and even (recent) Warhol. Then spend some time online reading. Come back and engage when you’re done.
zahrsaid.bsky.social
No thanks. It’s my job to teach (c) law. If you were my student, I’d be happy to teach it to you. Or if you were not simply trolling for a fight, to point you to resources to educate yourself rather than polemicizing. We don’t know yet what courts will do. But the problem isn’t as you describe it.
zahrsaid.bsky.social
What’s your evidence that fanworks wouldn’t meet the threshold? Even your categorization betrays your misunderstanding. Some fan works might. Others might one. That’s how fair use goes! Case by case, unless within a defined category with repeat factual patterns.
zahrsaid.bsky.social
Wow. There are too many mistaken understandings here to try to rebut or correct them all. Ordinarily I don’t go after people online to school them on copyright law (which is easy to get wrong). But you came for someone who knows the law and you don’t.
zahrsaid.bsky.social
These are not the criteria used to determine what transformative means. You are using a lay person’s (or perhaps an artist’s) definition of transformative, not a lawyer’s. Or, if you’re a lawyer, you need to read or reread the relevant cases. This is not what transformative (necessarily) mean(s).
zahrsaid.bsky.social
Yes. You’re not teaching me something I don’t know. But your responses reflect unfamiliarity with copyright doctrine …to Siva’s earlier point, under your reading, 22 years of case law (at least) would need to be overturned.
zahrsaid.bsky.social
I haven’t searched it up but at a quick glance this language looks like reasoning from a brief by an interested party. Of course it will sound one-sidedly in favor of its view.
