I'm concerned Congress is unable and unwilling to pass personal data protection legislation at the federal level. Why not empower your fellow Americans to control their data here and abroad?
I’m concerned that Americans are flocking to a number of adversary-owned social media platforms. We still need a comprehensive and risk-based approach to assessing and mitigating the risks of foreign-owned apps.

Better idea: pass a comprehensive data privacy bill that applies across the board... and maybe *DON'T* mimic Chinese authoritarianism by creating a "Great Firewall" of apps that aren't allowed to operate here.

You can actually fix things AND not abuse the 1st Amendment in one shot!

I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012.

Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place.

A thread.

Birders/avian scientists built strong bonds over on the old Twitter - we so enjoyed sharing with its vibrant community. In the last year most of that community moved to other platforms, esp. here on BlueSky. We will now concentrate our outreach efforts here, and hope it remains open, fair, and fun!

The possibility of SCOTUS handing 47 a chance to save TikTok is bad, this is x-times worse.

The looters I want to talk about are the ones who stole our safe and stable climate from us. Millennia of planetary harm for individuals' profit. They set the fires.

Post-TikTok argument, I continue to be disturbed at how infantilizing the law and government arguments in support of it are. The government thinks so little of us and other institutions (a free press for one) that it has to ban an entire social media service.

The Globe’s columnist is right: passing facial recognition reforms is a “no brainer.” The Massachusetts legislature should do it quickly when they get back into gear in 2025. www.bostonglobe.com/2024/12/26/o...

State lawmakers, this is a no-brainer. Pass the bill and send it to Governor Healey.
