Does every nonprofit and academic mission statement have a fiduciary responsibility override in invisible ink at the top?

PSA to folks in academia that use Google Apps for Edu, use Google Takeout to download your drive, so if you get separated, you have access to your shit. You can schedule it bimonthly. 📚 🎓

I hope you're planning to go to the NY Queer Fair Saturday. @miloblue.bsky.social will be tabling!

I'll be at a celebration of life, so please do all the queer ziney things in my absence. Also spare a few minutes to thank Steven Englander for all he did to promote a culture of resistance in NYC.

1. In a devastating new Pew Research Survey, only 3 in 10 transgender adults report being accepted by their parents.

And only 1 in 10 say they are accepted by their extended family.

This is the lowest number ever found in surveys asking similar questions.

Pew Survey: Only 31% Of Trans People Report Being Accepted By Their Parents
The survey comes as transgender people experience a legal assault from the far-right in the United States.

In case any of my fellow early voting New Yorkers need to hear this: VOTE FOR MAMDANI. And not just because I feel guilty for not canvassing.

Fellow flotilla activists are alleging Greta Thunberg was horrifically mistreated in Israeli detention.

If this is how Israel treats a high-profile detainee like Greta Thunberg, I want you to consider how they treat Palestinian detainees.

You don’t have to imagine it. It’s been widely documented:

Greta Thunberg speaks to the press after being released from illegal detainment in Israel: "I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me, but that is not the story.”

I'm starting my day by being difficult. Does one typically allow an editor to modify one's article without review or approval? Is this a case of needing to know you can ask for the other contract like we all used to do with egregious copyright demands back in the day?

Recommended: this history of Black comedians. Did you know that it was Black vaudevillian Charlie Case’s punching motion that we sat “punchline” today. Or that it’s because of Richard Pryor’s potty mouth that there’s a 7-second broadcast delay? Also sapphic news about Loretta Aiken/Moms Mabley.

The self-preservation instinct is hard to ignore, but if you believe in the soul, maybe prioritize that?

There needs to be a version of the serenity prayer for the wisdom to know when it's time to die on your feet vs. live on your knees. It's easy to bluster on here about what we'd have done in Nazi Germany, but we're here now, and what we're doing is what we're doing. It's hard and scary to be brave.

I'm really mad at my cats right now. I'd show you a photo of them, but then you wouldn't have any sympathy for what they put me through this morning. I'm worried enough about CBS News and the Flotilla right now and don't need their terrorism, too. Who needs seven breakfasts between 5 and 9am?!?

The Free Black Women's Library, based in Bed-Stuy, is launching Sisters of the Yam/A Black Girl Book Club. Presumably named for the bell hooks book, the book club is for "Black girls, femmes and gender non-conforming youth ages 13-17." docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... #books #AmReading #Brooklyn #NYC
Trade paperback edition, against a red background of the bell hooks' book Sisters of the Yam: Black Women and Self-Recovery. The front of the book features a black-and-white photo of a smiling bell hooks with a long scarf draped around her neck.

Really? I entered librarianship so that my boss's boss's boss and college counsel could use The Free Beacon and government intimidation to dictate my collection development policy.

I put in an application for a steering committee position and under skills forgot to put that I'm surprisingly strong and good at Pilates. These are not relevant skills, but I feel like the deciders should know?
