We asked, you answered. Which of our nine expert-backed tax policies should the chancellor use to plug the gap in her autumn budget? 💸

What do you think? Will Reeves go after the banks and the super rich? 👀

'Brexit hardman' Steve Baker on Robert Jenrick's racist comments on Politics Live: "he did say the comments privately."

"… a clear dog whistle… shocking how quickly we have allowed senior elected politicians to echo language that is used by the far right."

I'm afraid I do believe her best music has been her angry/break up stuff. And I just don't think Travis is much of a muse...
zoegrunewald.bsky.social
There is so much millennial cringe in there but also why is the billionaire pretending she doesn't care about possessions???
zoegrunewald.bsky.social
I hate to be parasocial but why can't she write a decent love song about her fiance???
zoegrunewald.bsky.social
It pains me to say it, there's one or two good fun tracks, but Life of a Showgirl might be one of her worst records. The lyrics are cringe at best and dreadful at worst and the whole thing lacks self awareness. What happened to the woman who wrote My Tears Ricochet and So Long London 😭

Thank you - appreciate it. It's always really difficult to talk about these things with the nuance they require so I'm glad I cut through and made sense.
zoegrunewald.bsky.social
I do agree! But I can't help feeling the genie is out of the bottle now which so much of this stuff. It's very hard to cram the darkness back in

What on Earth is this? An "in depth" BBC article about free speech in the UK that only cites examples of right-wing/ 'anti-woke' speech being suppressed. How can you mention Lucy Connolly but completely ignore Palestine Action / Just Stop Oil? Gob-smacking. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Late to this, but really can’t recommend enough this episode of Origin Story w/ @dorianlynskey.bsky.social and @iandunt.bsky.social on the Rivers of Blood speech. Scary as hell, brilliantly analysed, with lessons for all of us on the mainstreaming of the far-right

The brilliant @zoegrunewald.bsky.social for the I paper today …
The Conservatives are finished, but cling to power so desperately that Kemi Badenoch's interventions now sound less like policy and more like slurred voice notes from an ex. The Lib Dems function like a conscience the Government sometimes listens to, but one they can just as easily ignore. The Greens are building something under Zack Polanski's leadership, but they still struggle against the perception that they are a hyper-localised protest movement.
Into this vacuum has stepped Reform UK, whose rhetoric grows louder every week. Their solutions are a slow descent into nationalism and imported transatlantic grievance politics. The failure of the left to seize this moment is not just disappointing, it's dangerous. In that silence, fascism grows.
zoegrunewald.bsky.social
I more meant Vance tbh, but it's a fair statement. Even narcissists can grieve, I guess, and being able to grieve or feel pain for losing someone is not an emotion or experience that only "good" people feel.

Indeed, as I wrote on Tuesday. It might sound alarmist, but it's pretty clear we're following down a similar track:

British politics really needs to wake up to what is happening in America given we have imported a huge amount of its culture war politics. Maybe there are some clues about what would be on the cards here under a Reform government?
