Gaia enabled researchers to unravel the structure of our galaxy in unprecedented detail and model its behaviour hundreds of millions of years into the past as well as into the future.

But how did Gaia study the Milky Way from within? Discover here 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl...

Spiral Galaxy NGC 1512: Wide Field apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap26020...
Most galaxies don't have any rings -- why does this galaxy have three? To begin, a ring that's near NGC 1512's center -- and so hard to see here -- is the nuclear ring which glows brightly with recently formed stars

Hubble image of Arp 195, also known as UGC 4653.

The Establishing HST's Low Redshift Archive of Interacting Systems snapshot program filled in Hubble schedule gaps with short observations, like this one of three interacting galaxies.

This chart by @nathanielbullard.com is one reason data centers are driving up our electricity prices. Tech companies usually build data centers close to cities, where accommodating their GW-scale power demand entails costly reinforcement of wires or transformers. Utilities pass those costs on to us.

If you’ve ever struggled down a frozen sidewalk, you might have blamed the friction of your feet on the ice for making it slick. But something else entirely could've given you the slip.🧊
What’s Happening On The Slippery Surface Of Ice?
Conventional wisdom is that ice is slippery because it has a thin layer of water on top, but new research suggests something else is at play.

It features just a small portion of the Prawn Nebula (also known as IC 4628), located some 6,000 ly away in Scorpius.
