Staffing shortages have caused flight delays in several U.S. cities this week, as essential workers like air traffic controllers and TSA officers continue working without pay during the government shutdown.
Airport staffing shortages cause flight delays a week into shutdown
The delays came after Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy warned the shutdown could add to the strain on air traffic controllers and lead to cancellations.

Now on the seventh day of the government shutdown, the same scenario is playing out at FAA offices across the country, with ripple effects hitting flights almost everywhere.

Anyone who wants to understand what's going on, look up the role air traffic controllers played in ending the last government shutdown (during Trump 1.0 in 2019)

The FAA is delaying flights at Newark and Denver airports because they haven’t got enough air traffic control. Burbank has zero ATC from 4.30-10pm.

Lots of controllers who aren’t being paid during the government shutdown are calling in sick.

A first...was just landing at San Diego Airport...same path as I've done 100s of times...went by Balboa Park dome...suddenly plane picked up speed. We then took off...now circling. Not normal. Anything to do with less FAA due to gov shutdown? Certainly suspicious.

First one for me in 100's of landings to this airport over 25 years...I'd say that's not really common. Reasonable to wonder if FAA reduction is part of the reason...see Burbank.

I fly a ton. I know there are many reasons. Search on Burbank...FAA...government shutdown. 25 years, 100s of landings at this airport
...a first. Fair to ask if it's a coincidence. Landed safely...so that's good.
