One week into a federal government shutdown, U.S. service members, DOD civilian employees and their families in Japan and South Korea were taking stock and asking how much longer, with affording groceries and rent the main concerns.
Rent, groceries on minds of US military families in Asia Pacific as government shutdown continues
Americans with the U.S. military in the Pacific are concerned about how they will afford groceries and rent if the shutdown continues.

If Republicans don’t pass our bill to reopen the government and extend ACA tax credits, millions of families will see their health care costs soar.

Here's just one example of a MD couple who would see their costs nearly TRIPLE — a health catastrophe and another Trump betrayal:

This is great news. It is also a reminder that this train has left the station, no matter what the Trump administration does to slow it down.

They're just waiting for Trump to drop his health care plan in 2 weeks. Maybe they'll finally release his concepts of a plan.

We got a surprising number of assistant professors from TX applying for our position. Tremendous resumes. Some states will end up with weak/no social science research. Wonder how employers will feel about this.

Is this the first Dem MC to say this explicitly? That the reason this is the GOP’s shutdown isn’t because they “refuse to negotiate” or whatever but because they in fact have the power at any moment to nuke the filibuster and pass whatever they want to keep the govt operating?

ICYMI at @americasvoice.bsky.social: Your wallet has been taking a hit this year. You can blame the mass deportation policies of Trump and Stephen Miller, which have ensnared and scared off the skilled workers who feed us and are the backbone of the agricultural industry:
Your Wallet Is Taking A Hit This Year. Blame Mass Deportation
The rapid growth in daily expenses for working Americans has been fueled in part by the administration’s cruel and chaotic mass detention and deportation agenda.

Montana Senator Steve Daines gets a truth-telling award. Acknowledges Republicans shut down the government because they think people should pay higher health insurance premiums cepr.net/publications... It's not about "illegals" getting healthcare
Thoughts From the Shutdown
Trump’s shutdown chaos, his “America Fourth” foreign policy moves, and a bleak ADP jobs report highlight the growing costs of his presidency.

Some schools will be starved of resources. Other schools will be offered bribes. The end goal is the same. To make the universities an extension of the Trump administration. Shame on any of these institutions willing to take the bribes.
Letters on Wednesday were going out to solicit agreement and feedback from Vanderbilt University, Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Southern California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Texas, the University of Arizona, Brown University and the University of Virginia, according to an administration official.

It's about health care for low and middle income people. Rs want to cancel it to pay for billionaire tax cuts. Ds want to maintain it. They are not the same and Rs have the power to fund things, Ds are in the minority (as a reminder).
