" Mines Brandy. How long y'all planning to stay out here anyway? "

She answers back in a raspy southern draw, slowing down so they're walking in step.

" It can get kinda dangerous at night on account of the wild life, ya know, Cougar's, Coyotes, Armadillos stuff like that. "
He grins, biting back a noise of excitement as she turns and motions for him to follow. He looks like a puppy dog.

“My name’s Axl by the way,” he offers, trying to fill the silence as he continues to follow her.
Brandy breathes in sharply through her nose thinking this over.

" Sketchy is an understatement, suppose you're harmless enough though. "

Her shoulders sag as she turns on her heel motioning him to follow after.

" Come on family cemeteries on the other side of the property. Don't trip. "

It was 7.30am and reaching out from the past came the echo of an old memory that cried "armadillos!"

I'm so glad, the other name for me " pickled armadillos feet" was getting old

Als iedereen het kut vindt zou het dat natuurlijk ook kunnen zijn.

Of zoals Jim Hightower ooit zo poëtisch schreef: ‘There's nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos.’

People bring armadillos into Michigan as curiosity and then release them when they realize they make terrible pets. But just in case... we need to kill them.

In a recent meeting, state wildlife regulators said armadillos are in Michigan, but some officials say they don’t think the animals are established here — yet.

*nodding to my general* The armadillos grow stronger every day. How soon can they roll out onto the frontlines?

armadillos probably tired of being asked "what's the armadillyo?"

Sé honesto… ¿sabías que los armadillos eran así de juguetones? 😮

Yes, I only have experience with the banded armadillos. I saw sleeping holes that giant armadillos dug in the Ecuadoran Amazon, but sadly did not get to see any of those in person.

Most armadillos cannot conglobate, only the species of banded armadillos do. granted, they're good at digging and their claws are no joke.

As Jim Hightower said, ”There ain’t nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos.”
Take his personal army away from him while you can, you stupid, stupid assholes. You’re like an armadillo playing dead in the middle of the road so the semi won’t hurt you

You should open a similar business with armadillos instead of cats. Might be a profitable niche!

Exactly this 💔. I didn't want to be a bummer but all but one of the wild armadillos I saw as a kid in Houston was roadkill & now I don't even see that
January 29, 2026 at 7:17 PM
Oh this. It’s so so sad? When I do get home to Texas I never see them anymore. For a while as a kid I would see them everywhere, then mostly as “roadkill”.. eventually we saw no armadillos at all. It was like watching the process of their endangerment happening at different stages of my childhood 💔🥺
Truly one of my favorite things about being Texan is the armadillo neighbors.
I'm so sad I didn't see more of them due to wildlife loss from urbanization

Yeeeeeaaaaaaah. I like armadillos a lot, but I like them waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over there, you know?

In granny's defense, armadillos /do/ carry leprosy.

Jim Hightower famously said there was “nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos.” But in 2025, those armadillos have plenty of company: journalists and public officials practicing “both-sidesism” amid the crisis in democracy.

You didn’t ask, but I want to tell you that I used to pick up armadillos off the side of the road in my hometown. I would beg my granny to let me keep them and she would scream and yell in absolute horror, and tell me to take the vermin back outside. I think they are so adorable, even still.
The word armadillo is borrowed from Spanish and simply means “little armored one.” But an even better word for an armadillo, in my opinion, is the Nahuatl ayotochtli. It means “turtle rabbit.”

Or as Jim Hightower famously said "There's nothing in the middle of the road except yellow stripes and dead armadillos."

Nothing, Amy. Nothing, Ezra. Nothing.

Of course, Dracula was trying to learn the ultimate form from the desert creatures of the night so he could be a cowboy before the 1890s were over! The plot of the movie had so many secret layers to uncover.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Texans would really get that joke! I remember when I was little and we visited relatives in Arkansas during the summer there would always be a bunch of armadillos dead along the highway.
