Clarification. Bootc seems to just be busted completely. Errors both with and without ZFS root. But interesting new ‘seclabel’ literally a day after I brought it up. Either way I’ll make sure to turn off autoupdates tomorrow.

the reason everything autoupdates on windows is that there's no sane way of installing shit outside of the microsoft store so everybody has to do their own little implementation to not force you to go constantly check for shit on their website autoupdating from random sources is bad actually!

It's so fucking irritating how Apple forces updates on you. I'd turned off autoupdates on my mom's phone so she wouldn't get confused by the new UX, but fucking Apple pushed an update on her anyhow, and she just tapped through it (she's over 80 and obviously not a smart phone whiz)

Okay! Short answer is no, long answer is yes.
If I have internet enabled, it says an update is needed. If I go offline, it just opens the game 🤷♀️
I put autoupdates back on to see if it even tries if I only play it in offline mode (I would prefer to automatically keep other apps up to date).

Yeah i mean, linux as an ecosystem is decidedly just plug n' play at this point. Both of my wildly tech illiterate partners are using it on their daily drivers (after some IPT fiddlin + clamAV logging + Autoupdates) with basically 0 friction. But everything i did to smooth it for em is a search away

Absolutely. The main issue is that even if you do find an old version of CC, it autoupdates in the background as it now is on autorun in the start menu, and won't run without installing the new unusable piece of garbage version.
I've moved over to BleachBit which is like CC, but not garbage.

It bothers me that OS updating doesn't have an option to explicitly not autoupdate. I've had a Quest 3 bricked by Meta's autoupdates and I'd rather choose when to download and execute an update like visionOS.

nah the autofeeder is linked to my phone which autoupdates the time. it's alright, we'll get used to it at some point (or not and then it changes again lol)
