Because I love to make lists, I track ChoiceScript releases and projects monthly. Here's the list for this October!

rn I'm enjoying Heavens' Revolution: A Lion Among the Cypress by Peter Adrian Behravesh, about being an alchemist in a retrofuturistic Persian empire

There are other ways of writing them, like ChoiceScript (www.choiceofgames.com/make-your-ow...) or Ink (www.inklestudios.com/ink/) but Twine’s the simplest and easiest to get running.

I see that while I have far fewer of the "wrong number of indents" bugs than I did back when I was working on Social Services of the Doomed, my new recurring choicescript error is "didn't put a space after the closing parenthesis indicating the variable test in a multireplace function."

I've been keeping tracking for over a year now, and the ChoiceScript interactive fiction community always astonishes me with its sheer volume and variety of writing. This month there were five releases, ten brand-new projects, and twenty-six updated demos!

Choicescript can handle images with *image (that's why I'm always talking about portraits) but I don't think it can handle other kinds of media.

Ig starting this path off Ren'Py made handling variables less scary in my case but at the same time even choicescript seems ways more complicated for me and some of those using them are skilled authors themselves 😅

Long time ago, I wrote a branching narrative text game in ChoiceScript. It's only got the prologue and the first chapter done, but I think it's pretty good. Recently uploaded it as I wanted to revisit it. Go check it out!

(PS apologies - it's unfinished and is borked in spots)

I'm going to write a choicescript game. I don't know how long it'll take, but I want to do things right. Maybe then I'll get some validation from myself.

I believe that is what I need the most right now.

I have an extended metaphor in mind for how Twine is to ChoiceScript as Greek is to Latin, but I think the audience for such a thing is, like, three people.

Hm, Deine Installation vom ChoiceScript Server ist nicht in Ordnung, die monierten Dateien findet der Server nicht in seinem Wurzelverzeichnis.

No, Choice of Games, and their subsidiaries Hosted Games and Heart's Choice, have a zero-tolerance policy toward any genAI content, including text and art. If you suspect you've seen AI content in a ChoiceScript game, please reach out to [email protected].

My “Writing Games Using ChoiceScript” workshop for @flightsoffoundry.bsky.social is full, but a lot of what I’ll go through is ✨freely available✨, including a cheat sheet and my slides, at github.com/sgranade/cs_...

That requires me to reacquaint myself with everything that is not Ink (I've used Twine, Squiffy/Quest, ChoiceScript, and one or two others I can't think of rn, maybe also include Ren'Py?) plus some new ones, but I do think it would be extremely helpful to new devs.

Also, as part of the agreement with Choice of Games, which is letting me use their choicescript code for an entirely nominal fee + attribution, everything I create like this will be made freely available to anyone who wants to read/play. So I'll be posting here as chapters of the project go up.

I am, in fact, still woefully poking around trying to figure out the Twine equivalent of the choicescript "gosub" command, so that I can call functions from many places like I learned how to back in my first C++ programming classes and oh god I'm old.

Sitting here during downtime wondering if I could refactor that 60% WIP Shuos Academy game from ChoiceScript into MUD... Easier (smaller) starting points would probably be From Every Spark a Fire or Turnabout Is Fair Prey, Amiable Planet from Twine etc.

Started a stats screen for the game I'm working on. It's not hing much yet since I had to refresh myself on choicescript code. Still need to add the other NPCs.

Anyway, one of the characters (and potential romances) is Wyun, my Goblin Keloto illusionist OC.

1 weird thing: I'm new to ChoiceScript so idk how much control we have over these things, but I noticed that when I tried to adjust font size in the settings, it only affected the COG & dashingdon links, not the actual story. I've never run into this error before but thought you might like to know.

Wobei ChoiceScript an sich, gerade mit der Anleitung die sie zusammengestellt haben, schon gut verständlich ist. Wobei ich noch nicht viel ausprobiert habe, also mal schauen wie es wird. 😅

So it's just kind of in my head that Animals Georg is a standard superhero archetype. Never really thought to question it, until I was laying out the design of my Choicescript game to my partner and they were like "wait, animals? Why, though?"
