This is my 2nd copy of this one - this time for my Mum. It's bilingual, and includes several passages which help to contextualise some of the opinions I express.

The English side of "Cornwall's Secret War" by Pol Hodge, "The True Story of The Prayer Book War". It features the start of The Lord's Prayer in Kernewek, then a sketched scene of a rebellion, then the end of The Lord's Prayer in English. An excerpt (abridged): "The Consequence for Cornwall... 5,000 men ... had been killed ... 11% ... of the population of Cornwall ... many people drawn from the areas that spoke Cornish - the heart of the Cornish speaking community had been ripped out"

We, the activists, creatives, teachers, learners and speakers of the Cornish language community, call on our community and all organisations working with the Cornish language to commit to take no part in the use of Generative AI and to refrain from promoting or publishing any materials using it. While in another world GenAI and LLMs could be useful tools, we do not live in that world. We live in a world where GenAI guzzles drinking water, strips countries in the Global South of their resources and then dumps its e-waste in them. We live in a world where workers, especially creatives and language experts, are losing their livelihoods to GenAI and where our work is stolen for profit. We live in a world where using GenAI has been shown to impair cognition, flatten languages and worsen exploitation. Our language is a small, indigenous, minoritised one and it is especially vulnerable to these problems—to the risk of being drowned by slop. Our language is a treasure. It must not be surrendered to faceless corporations and thoughtless machines. Our language is human and it does not live on circuitry or in an algorithm. It lives in the mouths and minds of people. We, as speakers, believe that Cornish is a language that thrives only through human creativity and passion, through authenticity, community, effort and trust. Our language must be for the people, of the people and by the people. We will not work with GenAI and we will not trust those who do. We call on our community to pledge not to engage with GenAI and to join us in resistance. I've warned about AI before and how one of the potential outcomes of using it is drowning other varieties of #Kernewek under SWF Main Middle. Now I learn that it is the stance of at least some of the Kesva to do this ON PURPOSE.

It was funny to say I speak Kernewek in the interview because for a while they were stumbling around to find someone to translate, I speak English also.
