No offense to Mike Newell, but Alfonso Cuarón is far and away the best filmmaker to direct one of them. There's just no comparing his work to someone like Chris Columbus or David Yates.

I think the movies are GREAT for no other reason than many of the directors and screenwriters understand the material better than JKR does. Especially Alfonso Cuarón in Prisoner of Azkaban.

Gravity is the ONLY 3D film I've seen that worked. The instant anything hits the edge of frame, it breaks the illusion (for me). Cuarón working specifically around that limitation was AMAZING, but everything else feels like a gimmick.

Though Gravity had one utterly egregious (and unnecessary) physics blunder in a pivotal scene - where everywhere else Cuaron had stuck to the rules - which somehow annoys me more than explosion noises in a vacuum or spaceships making banked turns. Bet it looked great in 3D though.
