Discotek discontinuing production of the Keroro Blurays not too long after I ordered them all back in December (I'm still waiting on S2 to ship out since it was on backorder)... this is one of the only times I've cared about preserving physical media, let me have this, dude

Video distributor MediaOCD is partnering with Discotek Media to sell classic anime titles directly on its website through a new initiative called "Discotek Deep Dives."
MediaOCD & Discotek Media Launch “Discotek Deep Dives” for Home Media Back Catalog Titles
Each month, 20-30 Blu-ray titles will be added, available for pre-order before shipping.

Discotek put out the Blu-ray a little while ago. They spared no expense finding the content for that release.

Would be nice, but MediaOCD is stepping in precisely because CR Store screwed Discotek over by not wanting to stock some of their titles that are still in print. Also, as I understand it, Discotek primarily gets home video rights for the titles they acquire so streaming partnerships are unlikely.

Here's what I do to buy anime:

- For Sentai stuff, I order directly from them.
- For new AnimEigo and Discotek, I order directly from MediaOCD
- Anything else, I use RACS.
- Amazon is the very last resort

Note: I don't buy anime as much as I used to. Most of my hobby money is spent on video games.

WHERE IS A DISCOTEK RELEASE?
Now on in the background, Roujin-Z (1991, Kitakubo)

also mediaocd has announced a new program named "Discotek Deep Dives" as a direct response, preorders for hard to find releases. That's a good thing, but Crunchyroll is still full of it. I remember paying for premium years ago for an older show and no ads and I still got ads.

Hoping discotek might get some, they did take Planet With out of crunchy jail

For those looking for alternatives to the Crunchyroll store, an eBay vendor called "pop.market" has been great for me, especially w/ Sentai titles.

They do an extra 20% off if buying 3 or more titles. Beats the hell out of CR's prices. Sadly they don't carry Discotek.

Really wish Discotek could have their own storefront, instead of having to rely on CR
✨How was the Policy Discovered?✨

• The Crunchyroll Store purged a number of Discotek titles from their back catalog which included titles that were In-stock with no reason why

- Based on the reddit thread, it doesn't appear that Crunchyroll notified Disotek ahead of time about the delistings

So this is pretty much my plan for buying anime. Media OCD for Discotek. Pop Market and Please Rewind, and Movie Mars for any remaining Funimation titles and Gruv Entertainment for Viz Media. I’m done with Crunchyroll.

MediaOCD/AnimEigo and Discotek seems like go-to places going forward. There is also Robert's Anime Corner Store(RCS)!

Any other place you'd recommend?
January 31, 2026 at 12:59 AM
I largely only buy discotek or sentai shit now adays since they tend to get things i like, so like there no reason for me to use this store front at all.

I recommend just finding the folks who you buy from and start ordering from there own website or other to support them and fuck crunchy as always

Crunchyroll has allegedly rolled out a new "Slow Sellers" policy for the Crunchyroll Store in which products that fail to meet internal sales expectations are flagged, leading to order cancellations & delisting of product to prioritize "fast selling" products from Well Known IPs

If you’re planning on buying from Discotek, MediaOCD is the way to go from here on out. Screw Crunchyroll. 🖕🏽

Just even more reason for me not to shop at Crunchyroll. I pretty much only bought Discotek and Animeigo titles there durng thier sales. :/

Discotek is starting to put their stuff on the MediaOCD store. They don't have a lot of legacy releases yet but are working on adding them: www.mediaocd.com/post/alien-n...

There are also a small selection of them on DiabolikDVD.

Shit so bad that I actually got a paid membership for Barnes & Noble for my manga buying and I'm actually far better off for it. I probably buy 50-60 manga volumes in a year, sometimes more. So their loss. And we mostly buy Discotek vlu-rays anyway, so we just get our stuff from MediaOCD.

Such as? Like if I want Discotek releases (at MSRP) I have to go to CR.
January 30, 2026 at 11:52 PM
But, yeah, pretty much the best way to support anime companies nowadays is to simply buy from their own storefronts.

MediaOCD/AnimEigo also offers some Discotek & Media Blasters titles, but I'm pretty sure they don't plan on becoming the new Right Stuf anytime soon.
