Another example of the thoughtless, feckless and unaccountable actions of the UK gamebird shooting industry, who yet again do what they like, when they like and to hell with the consequences, because there aren’t any.

Intrigued to hear what "negative impacts" there would be on "designated species" if non-native gamebird releases were stopped. That appears to be what GWCT told Minister Sue Hayman in a meeting earlier this year. I've FOI'd the meeting minutes.

Gamebird licensing - why are we waiting?
RSPB Cymru is calling on the Welsh Government to introduce the licensing of gamebird shooting in Wales. Find out more about why, despite good evidence in favour of regulation and concerns about the impacts of bird flu, is Welsh Government is taking so long to protect our wildlife.

We support calls from @rspbcymru.bsky.social for Welsh Gov to stop delaying a decision on licensing gamebird releases.

Bird flu compounds the risk of activities that already increase competition with rare species - like curlew & black grouse - for food. Why the delay?

Absolutely! RSPB wastes time and money with half-hearted, half-cocked solutions. Pheasants are non-native to the UK and their continued release should simply be banned, period. I long gave up my membership because of their stand (or lack of) on cat predation, Hen Harriers, hunting, gamebird release.
