#Ichneumonidae
Ten dozen articles cite Seyrig's "Les Ichneumonides de Madagascar: Ichneumonidae Cryptinae. IV", yet I've never met anyone who's so much as seen a copy.

Then when I want to find out where Rogez is in Madagascar, no one says where they got their coordinates from.

Citations. Never the right amount.
I'm going to overuse the exclamation marks again:

Ahhahaaa!! At long last, after wading through masses of articles, someone.. wait for it... cited their source!!!

I think I've got it. But still need to verify. Blessed be they who actually bother to cite how they found out.

I’ve had confirmation from Malcolm Storey via the British Ichneumonidae FB site that this is O. variegatus, apparently this is too late in the winter for O. obscuratus & there are other anatomical differences too that don’t fully understand (angle of the genal and hyperstomal carinae)

But as a wasp fan, I ought to demand comparisons at the family level. Family Ichneumonidae, which I study, may well be the most species rich family on the planet. We think over 100,000 species (though that's just a guess).

I've added country species distribution data from Taxapad (still need to get data for a few subfamilies) to ichsofna.org. By clicking on a country/state you will get a list of all ichneumonids that occur there (up to 2016).

The Royal Entomological Society heeft wel een handboek voor het determineren van Ichneumonidae maar de prijs ervan (70euro) vind ik een beetje aan de hoge kant om alleen het dier van de foto op naam te brengen.🙂

Been adding a lot of new species to ichsofna.org. Here's a stunning species of as yet unidentified Glypta from Wyoming. It's no trivial task to ID these since there are 316 Glypta species in North America!

Our DNA library is made possible thanks to the support of our funding partners.

Today’s featured specimen is a wasp from the Ichneumonidae family, collected in Argentina. This record was made possible through funding from the New Frontiers in Research Fund.

Although there are tens of thousands of species of parasitoid wasps, this species (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Vulgichneumon brevicinctor) is one of the most common in North America. They prey on a variety of moth larvae that are major crop pests. Oak Openings Preserve Metropark, Ohio, 17 May 2015.

My brain risks being an Irish Setter let loose on a field with an innumerable amount of footballs.

There are so many critters to look for everywhere and this paper is yet another football on the field.

For the idiobionts, the host stays paralysed. Alive, but no longer moves around.

It's almost always one egg per host (for family Ichneumonidae). If more than one egg gets laid, one will eat the other. But there are exceptions.

Parasitoidic strategy of Ogkosoma cremieri (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Hybrizontinae) against Lasius capitatus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) InsSociaux
Parasitoidic strategy of Ogkosoma cremieri (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Hybrizontinae) against Lasius capitatus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
From late September to mid-October 2022 in Hokkaido, Japan, females of Ogkosoma cremieri (Romand) (Ichneumonidae: Hybrizontinae) were observed hovering near the nest entrance of Lasius capitatus (Kuznetsov-Ugamsky) (Formicidae), approaching larvae carried by worker ants. Females sometimes aggressively pushed each other in competition over hosts. Individuals that were knocked away were occasionally attacked by ants and carried into the nest. These observations suggest intraspecific competition among females over limited host resources and a high risk of ant attack during oviposition attempts. Nighttime observations revealed active larval transport by ants, but no parasitoidic behavior by O. cremieri, suggesting that females are inactive at night. Parasitoidism of social insects faces high barriers due to their collective defenses and complex communication systems, making understanding parasitoid adaptations essential for elucidating host–parasitoid interactions. Our findings provide insight into the behavioral evolution of parasitoid wasps and the evolutionary arms race between hosts and parasitoids.
