I love musicals & a show tune. 😃

However; the former Labour Chancellor, Denis Healey, once spoke of MPs having a 'hinterland' (i.e. interests outside of Politics). Edward Heath was a keen Sailor.

Can you imagine the likes of Healey, Harold Wilson & Roy Jenkins bonding over show TUNES? 🤔

FFS!!! 🙄

It’s almost like leaning into the rabid, racist right was always going to alienate a greater number of Labour voters than it would ever potentially gain from Reform/Conservatives.

It’s almost like that was obvious to anyone with a heartbeat

Things change, ideas evolve. The media and our politics needs to embrace the way information is consumed. It makes sense for Labour to control the output to maximise the sharing of policy. Delighted with our progressive PM.

And Labour is doing the same stuff in power in the UK. Where is this coming from in terms of policy & advocacy? I know where from on the Right, but on the Left? Is it a misguided attempt to get leverage against the platforms? Or a sub-rosa assent that expression online (Gaza, porn) is out of hand?

The compromise was that the stolen lands would remain stolen, Indigenous populations would be "voluntarily" converted to Christianity (making them human though they were not before), and colonizers would have to human-traffick forced labour from elsewhere.

You have to support trans voters to bring them into the coalition.

And you have to do it now; else you encourage the transphobes to take over the party, precluding you from taking a trans rights position later. Look at UK Labour.

This could be the moment for the Libdems to replace Labour as the main left of centre force in British politics. If they could smash Reform at the GE with Greens coming second that might create a space for a moderate Centre right party to emerge and restore sanity to UK politics.

5 week holiday has come to an end and I am super sad.
Catching up with ageing rellos was so good. Seeing new places and new experiences, learning new things of my home is irreplaceably precious.
So much I dream about moving back there, before the weather and conservative labour laws slap me awake.

Can we have a Labour government please? That’s what we voted for. Also will the pensioners who didn’t receive the winter fuel allowance last year get that payment back?

On the upside they’re in France, so it’s better than 0 odds that half the labour force strikes, Marseilles burns to the ground and the government forces them to hire the transistors back

'39 Labour MPs have warned the PM they are not prepared to support proposals to limit jury trials in England and Wales.' Not enough to overturn the government's 148 seat majority, but embarrassing.

Exploitation is structural, even if wages are “fair”

Worker Alienation from:

the product of their labour

the labour process

their fellow humans

their own human potential

Crisis tendency: capitalism periodically produces overproduction, unemployment, and crashes

Social change happens through class struggle, not ideas or morals alone

For Marx, society is fundamentally divided into classes defined by their relationship to the means of production

Under capitalism:

Bourgeoisie: own capital (factories, land, finance)

Proletariat: sell their labour to survive
