The inability for consultants to think about the fact you can do both is hilarious. Like you throw out the glonzo shit for the low info guys and for the rest you do healthcare costs. Microtargeting exists.

Social media functions as a "distorted mirror," explains @pumashen.bsky.social, e.g. 3% of accounts generate 33% of posts; 1% of online communities are responsible for 74% of conflict; 0.1% of users drive 80% of #disinformation.

The strategic response is to neutralize methods of mass amplification.

Trump’s campaign is pouring millions into late-stage voter turnout efforts in Virginia and New Jersey, targeting Republican and pro-Trump voters who typically skip off-year elections. The initiative includes a $1 million-plus microtargeting campaign in each state and a surprise tele-rally '

True, but also Cambridge Analytica used Facebook data stolen from users to create 5000 data pts on every single US voter in 2016, something earlier Rs could only dream of. Imagine what dark microtargeting and psyops they can run ten yrs later—time to rewatch the Great Hack on Netflix.

And Dems had messaging like this too for different communities! Dems did massive microtargeting

Fundamentally you need people to trust you, and microtargeting your policy positions like this is a way to sound fake and corporate.
i'm fine with a deeper focus on economic issues over social issues but man does plank 2 give the game away

"L’uso combinato di piattaforme digitali, intelligenza artificiale, tecniche di microtargeting e linguaggi emozionali consente agli attori ostili di alterare il dibattito pubblico con costi contenuti e un’elevata efficacia operativa. "

This is not solely a problem of policy enforcement, but an issue with the fundamental architecture of Meta’s opaque and poorly moderated advertising model built on surveillance, profiling, and microtargeting. (24/27)

Here's the thing tho... propaganda is advertising. How can Democrats be so bad at it. And how are we not also microtargeting people using social media data?

Oh, I agree micro-targeting is worse. I read around 2015 about Putins man that invented the confusion method and ran it from 2000, and how it worked in Russia. It was a warning about Trump. Will look for it. Microtargeting not possible in 2000, and AI wasn't out, so I see those as refinements.

About time the global community came together and got a grip on this huge issue, before the cancer of disinformation and AI-driven microtargeting spreads even further and more democracies fall victim to this existential threat.

USA about to find out. 👇🏼

1/ 🚨 Conspiracy theories about the 2024 election miss the bigger picture.

The truth? It wasn’t one night, one hack, or one fraud. It was a system rigged in plain sight – right in front of us. The playbook was out in the open for years. But hardly anyone paid attention.

Here’s how they did it... 🧵

I love microtargeting
Vice President Harris: Why don't you tell the 800,000 Polish Americans right here in Pennsylvania how quickly you would give up for the sake of favor, and what you think is a friendship with a dictator who would eat you for lunch?

Oldie but goodie - microtargeting and what it means - because when you know you know - and it's good to know.

<< According to Facebook, Russia-connected accounts spent about $100,000 on Facebook ads during the 2016 presidential election. >>

To fight this, we need:
– Transparency laws for political content
– Platform friction for ad targeting
– Literacy around personalized persuasion

Microtargeting isn’t going away — but we can shrink its impact.

Microtargeting kann in manchen Fällen illegal sein. Die auf Datenschutz spezialisierte NGO noyb reichte bereits 2023 bei der Berliner und der Bayerischen Datenschutzbehörde gegen sechs Parteien Beschwerde ein.

I am skeptical about Web-based microtargeting Manchurian candidate hypotheses, although with sextortion scams working on some, you never know. It's a weird time out there.

The European Commission must practice what it preaches!

Why is EU Home Affairs breaking EU’s #DSA by microtargeting millions based on their religious and political beliefs to advertise its unlawful #CSAR proposal?

Commissioner @thierrybreton.bsky.social who answers for this mess?
