Wow, it's ridiculous to suggest that Trump does anything for his own benefit, is it?

Okay then.
Leavitt: "I think it's frankly ridiculous that anyone in this room would even suggest that President Trump is doing anything for his own benefit. He left a life of luxury and a life of running a very successful real estate empire for public service."

They care a shitton more about control of the government and power than they do about money. They can make more money. But representative government can break up their crony capitalism and even jail them for fraud, insider trading, corruption and for some, sex crimes.

Today, I'm proud to announce that we've erased over $1.1 billion in medical debt for more than half a million Illinoisans.

No one should be forced to choose between life-saving care and feeding their families.

Stay tuned for more news on affordability in Illinois tomorrow.

I agree. Unrolling illegal contracts should be as central to the Dem platform as rapid and effective prosecution of those responsible.
Another thing to add to the Dem platform: all of these contracts were plainly procured through fraud, not one of them will be honored, and all culpable parties will be prosecuted.

This isn't a "radical" demand, it's the bare minimum required to re-establish the rule of law.
The current person in charge of ICE's procurement for detention is a GEO Group executive who ran the company's immigration detention portfolio. He was granted an "ethics waiver" from DHS allowing him to hand out contracts to GEO in his new role.

NEW — An obscure Navy contractor program is making Trump’s plans to quickly build out and supply immigrant concentration camps around the country a reality.

Here I explain WEXMAC TITUS, an acronym you need to understand:
For ICE to build concentration camps quickly, they're leaning on this Dept. of War program
WEXMAC TITUS helps contractors bypass the traditionally lengthy government contract bidding process

This is insane. The stories coming out of these camps is gonna be the worst shit you've ever heard.
DHS is holding a 2-month-old BABY at a detention facility in Texas.

Last night, Juan Nicolás was rushed to the hospital after choking on his own vomit & being unable to breathe.

This demands accountability — not a blank check for more cruelty.
I have an update on Juan Nicolás, the 2-month-old baby detained at Dilley, and his mother.

The idea that the Chamber of Commerce is "left-wing" is beyond insane. It is completely disconnected from reality. Chamber of Commerce was to the right of Reagan.

What’s so awful and stupid about this is that it applies to every single right-wing “Intellectual.” The whole culture is a snake pit of race science cranks and misogynist perverts. They have not changed their positions meaningfully since the civil war began.
The first assistant Chris Rufo hired in 2021 was a Pepe the frog loving fan of “groyper mom” Michelle Malkin. That guy worked for him for 3+ years before going to work for Russell Vought in the Trump administration last year. So Rufo can miss me with the “I’m shocked by Fuentes’s popularity.”

I second Timnit's excellent idea, and raise her a "libertarians are conservatives that want to smoke pot," only smoking pot isn't the way that these conservatives aim to transgress.
Instead of "the left isn't paying enough attention to these machine gods" they're claiming to build, perhaps we should write an article about how effective altruists brand themselves "left", ask who is writing these articles, and trace their cults and sources of funding.

Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate🧧

The last Year of the Fire Horse began in '66 & saw anti-war protests & civil rights struggle. It was the year Rev. Jackson left seminary to join Dr. King’s Freedom Movement.

May 2026 bring New York the same bold change people deserve.

I don't know what to do but just keep repeating it so I don't go insane: the rise & eventual total domination of RW media is the single most significant political development of my lifetime and the entirely of the US political & media elite resolutely refuse to discuss or even acknowledge it.

They just talk as though the public spontaneously lurched to the right on a few specific issues -- sports, restrooms. And now they just take that as a given, a fact that trans supporters must work around.

But how did that happen? Anyone? It's fucking *bizarre* they never even raise the question.

This whole fight over transgender stuff happening on X is so weird to me. The most notable thing about trans issues in the last 5 years has been the enormous, coordinated anti-trans activism campaign across the right, aided by moral cowards in the center.

But that campaign is *never mentioned*.

A major reason we have so few Black physicians is the 1910 Flexner Report that closed almost every medical school that primarily served Black students. This scholarship was an effort to correct that historical error, and UAB just terminated it and gave the money back to the sponsoring family.
Anti-DEI is about re-segregation and the erasure of Black and Brown people. Every day brings another example of the blatantly racist agenda of this policy.

I was trying to come up with an analogy and the best I could think of was "imagine if you were sick and the government denied access to modern medicine and forced you to rely on outdated 19th century stuff" and, oh
Taxing wind and solar, while subsidizing fossil fuels and biofuels. Get it yet?
