Only a/having his fingerprint taken w/Mubashir allowed to present his ID & given permission to leave.
Officers refused to drop him back off at Cedar-Riverside, instead telling him to walk home more than seven miles in the midst of a snowstorm, which had led authorities to issue a weather advisory.

This is the standard MO now.

"Mubashir said that when they finally arrived at the Whipple Federal Building, the agents took him out of the vehicle and made him stand in the cold unless he consented to a face scan, so he finally did."

Do you even listen to yourself, my friend? The rights of people are being stripped away, it's a tactic relied on time and time again that we do not raise alarm until it is happening to ourselves. For it is always happening to Someone Else. Until it isnt. Bovino said US citizens need to worry, too.

I hope there are lawyers lining up to assist Mr. Mubashir in filing his multimillion dollar lawsuit against these DHS/ICE/CBP violent goons.

Another citizen arrested, refused his passport, took him to detention.

When he asked agents to drop him off at the location where he was detained, Mubashir said the agents told him he had to walk home in the snow.

“I asked three times, they said, ‘No, you’re walking,'

They’re detaining anyone who “fits the description,” in the hope that they’ll snag someone who is deportable.

The only thing Mubashir did to arouse their suspicion was try to avoid them, which is a reasonable reaction on his part.

He's also misstating the law. The shitty section of the INA that would allow him to say this applies to noncitizen residents, not Mr. Mubashir, who is a citizen.

"Mr. Mubashir told local news that DHS officers outright *refused* to check his REAL ID to verify his legal status, instead handcuffed him, dragged him down to the local ICE processing office so they could fingerprint him, run him through their systems instead.”

If Mubashir was white NONE of what happened to him would have happened.

Sadly, I think they realize they're in the clear so long as they only do things like this to people with a last name like Mubashir. Same reason there wasn't a stronger outcry over Khashoggi, if less than 51% of the country can see themselves in your situation nothing will change.

Bovino, the man overseeing mass deportations, publicly declared that we must all have our papers on us, at all times, or we could be stopped, harassed, kidnapped, and detained, as they did with the man in this case, who is a US citizen.

Putting aside for the moment that citizens are not required to carry proof of their citizenship, if Mubashir had an Enhanced Real ID, which is an option in Minnesota, then that absolutely is proof of citizenship. Bovino knows all this. But he's creating a terrorist police state one word at a time.

CBP saying “One must carry immigration documents at all times, as per the Immigration and Naturalization Act”.

I, nor the victim of this #KavanaughStop, don’t have “immigration documents”, unless you count my birth certificate.

A real ID isn’t an immigration document, which isn’t something Mubashir would have had because HE IS A CITIZEN. They are stopping and kidnapping people of color, assuming they are not citizens, and taking them into custody when citizens naturally don’t have immigration paperwork on them.

That is exactly what Mr. Mubashir was doing, and asking them to check. They didn't care. Until finally, someone at the detention center finally did check and let him go.
