#NeuroImmunology
One thing that I usually don't fully grasp is how all the specific autoimmune mito/cellular findings connect clearly with brainstem dysfunction/damage. Bc if I am 99% convinced of one thing about my illness is that brainstem/ANS (neuroimmunology) plays an absolute key role.

Additionally, during my degree I had the opportunity to study in Spain through the Erasmus program. It was there, Barcelona&Madrid, that I first encountered neuroimmunology, which shifted my initial interest from anatomy. I continue to hold a deep appreciation and gratitude for Spanish scientists.💜

Could targeting the gut's immune system tackle the early stages of Parkinson's? 🧠

A new study from @soyonhonglab.bsky.social & Tim Bartels (UK DRI at UCL) has revealed how Parkinson’s spreads from the gut to the brain - with the help of immune cells.

Non-compacted, PET-insensitive amyloid states increase after systemic inflammation and predict neuritic damage across Aβ pathology models and Alzheimer patients
Neuroinflammation is a key modulator of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) risk, yet the impact of non-genetic inflammatory risk factors – such as systemic inflammation – remains poorly defined. Building on our...
