Asafoetida (Hing) plays a significant role in both Jain and Buddhist cuisines. It's the dried latex (gum oleoresin) from the rhizome or tap root of Ferula spp. a member of the carrot family.
Nuns and monks use it so they don't have onion & garlic breath.

Oleoresin capsicum (OC) gas and spray has both an immediate effect and an ongoing effect. The inhaled effects are very strong and unpleasant, but they subside in a fairly short time — 2-10 minutes. The ongoing effects can last for days, and the cumulative impact on a person can be disabling.

I looked it up, and the paprika extract they're using (oleoresin paprika) is very close to flavorless. It's added for color.
Oleoresin capsaicin, OTOH, will add actual heat.
I'd never heard of either ingredient before, so the research was fun. 100% new information!
