My dad grew up in a family of 14 kids on a big family farm in Oregon's Willamette Valley in the 1940s and 1950s.

Not ONE of his 13 brothers and sisters wanted to stick around and take over the farm. NOT ONE. Partly because my grandfather was an authoritarian dick. But also, they knew better.
