That’s more like it! The Romans and their Palmyrene allies have formed an L shaped line against the Sasanians. On their left flank, their HC unit is pushing back the Sasanian horse archers and turning that flank. Meanwhile on the other flank, archery is pushing them back but non gaps yet…

The Romans have finally managed to form a battle line and get their core legions into shape. And with villages anchoring their lines and Palmyrene reinforcements gradually arriving, there is still a chance to pull this out of the bag. They’ve got a lot of setback and disaster cards though…#S&H

The Roman army, predominantly from the Province of Syria Coele, consisted of several legions, auxiliaries and cavalry with a Palmyrene force in reserve. Historically the thinking was they were mustering outside the small Euphrates port of Balis (top right hand corner). Therefore they have a…

At Yale University’s Art Gallery is the shrine to the god Mithras known as the Mithraeum from Dura-Europos, dating to 168-69 CE. It don’t care much about Mithras but do adore the Palmyrene archers in the Roman army who renovated it in 209-211 CE & added some mean mugging animals (pic is my own). 🐴

That went to the wire! The Sasanians had pushed through the centre although the Palmyrene infantry were still fighting! Meanwhile, the Sasanian infantry were about to be completely encircled. Sasanians did enough to win however if the Palmyrenes had one more turn it would have been a very different!

Ok, nothing historical about that result. Romans unable to neutralise the Palmyrene cavalry and the Roman centre bounced of the Palmyrene infantry due to some canny archery…

This actually kind of makes be believe that legend about how he gave the Palmyrene queen Zenobia a cushy villa after defeating her in battle MIGHT be true.

I thought it was just fan-fiction wish-casting. But if he made Tetricus a governor it seems plausible that he could’ve spared Zenobia, too.

Proving I'm still alive by having updated my Chaldea Collection with Servant 325: Zenobia, the Palmyrene queen/empress! I did work a bit with a certain artist when it comes to some of the dialogue, if it seems familiar. Enjoy and look forward to more~
