also your constituents...You do not get to pick and choose which constituents deserve care protection or public health services, people who are unhoused, people who use drugs, people in crisis, every single one of them is a Phoenician. Our parks do not divide people into worthy and unworthy,"

“Phlebas the Phoenician, a fortnight dead,
Forgot the cry of gulls & the deep sea swell
And the profit & loss.
A current under sea
Picked his bones in whispers. As he rose & fell
He passed the stages of his age & youth
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome & tall as you.” (TS Elliot)

Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbours you're seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,

I sincerely recommend Wes Anderson's crime comedy

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME (2025)

I believe that you will enjoy it as much as we did because it's bloody brilliant and hilarious. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

Windstar‘s Star Legend threads her way through the Mediterranean, sailing through time itself. Millennia of Phoenician legends, Roman roads, Moorish courtyards and Spanish crowns as we cruise from Malaga to Barcelona. Windstar deliver warm and intimate luxury. A small ship journey that begins amongst Málaga’s palms and Picassos, pauses at Gibraltar’s improbable outcrop of red postboxes and Barbary Apes, then drifts towards Cartagena, Valencia, …

16. The Phoenician Scheme [Cinema Viewing]: Wes Anderson makes genre films, they're called "Wes Anderson" films and I appreciate that. This and stealing One Battle After Another argue we need Benicio del Toro in more lead roles than he already has.

9. The Phoenician Scheme

It does what it needs to do. Fun cinematography and story but kind of underwhelming compared to his other works

The Pyrgi tablets are three golden plates inscribed with a bilingual Phoenician–Etruscan dedicatory text. They date to c. 500 BC. They record the foundation of a temple and its dedication to the Phoenician goddess Astarte. The work is attributed to Thefarie Velianas, ruler of Caere #EpigraphyTuesday

Best movies of 2025 (that I saw, obviously):
Friendship
28 Years Later
The Phoenician Scheme

Worst:
Highest 2 Lowest

I did see One Battle After Another, but I think how it treats its black characters, especially in the first 25 minutes or so, disqualifies it from the top of my list

While these films are not comedies, Friendship, The Phoenician Scheme, and Splitsville are all comedies from 2025 which IMO were funnier than the Naked Gun
