It’s #FemaleFilmmakerFriday! As I did last year, I’m beginning my new #DirectedByWomen thread with an Indie Spirit contender. And, since it’s Christmastide, I'm bearing witness to the religious musical bio-pic THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE (2025) by Mona Fastvold. #52FilmsByWomen #1 #Filmsky 📽️

A brilliant speech by Canada's Mark Carney in Davos: "The old order is not coming back. We should not mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy...The powerful have their power. But we have something too — the capacity to stop pretending, to name reality, to build our strength at home & to act together."

One thing that’s being overlooked here is that not only is he being firm in abolishing ICE but he gives a very good reason to why it needs to be abolished, it is no longer doing what it was created to do and that can be sold to independents I think.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:

Half the battle with this guy is just reiterating government can and already does good things that are so ubiquitous they’ve become invisible. He’s able to remind you in a way that you understand that good government can exist outside of a 24/7 vengeance operation, and in NYC already does.

it's actually really stupid that The Testament of Ann Lee isn't gonna be nominated for a boatload of Oscars like The Brutalist was

Public lands should be protected and shared with the public, not destroyed to make profits for oil companies.
Feds plan to lease 1 million acres in California to oil, gas developers
The federal government proposes allowing oil and gas drilling in the Golden State’s Pinnacles National Park, Mount Diablo State Park, Henry W. Coe State Park and Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve.

Decided to give FRANKENSTEIN another go after chatting with a friend about it and now I've made it 15 minutes but already I'm like...

leftist plan to increase the birthrate:

- universal health care
- free child care
- better paid family leave
- better workforce protections so they can't lay you off while you're pregnant and be like "no it was for something else i swear"

ok i did it

As birthrates tumble, some progressives say the left needs to offer ideas and solutions
The US and other countries face aging, shrinking populations. Conservatives have shaped debate over the issue. Some liberals say it's time for progressives to weigh in.

I'll keep it simple. I want to see Trump having a stroke at the top of the AF1 steps and falling. On the way down he breaks every bone in his face and body.
He then lives out the rest of his days unable to think, speak or move on a hospital bed.
Then we gold plate the steps and make it a monument..
