They basically just want 3.5/1e levels of being able to determine their own power caps. They have no confidence in their minmaxing because most of the minmaxing is done for them, the rest is the sort of in-game tactical decision making they powergame to literally avoid engaging with.

I see posts that designers should uncap their games and let players decide their own, but apart from the fact I don't want to put that much effort in, I played too many 3.5/1e games where there was a gentleman's agreement to not powergame and people would STILL try to circumvent it.
