I couldn’t get my PowerShell runbook working so you can imagine the mood I’m in

“We have to do a thing we’ve never done before with a toxic boss watching and this is the first time we see the runbook”

Like, "Go write up a runbook for this specific task," versus, "Hey, I need you to build runbooks for our work"?

if you don't have a runbook for when meta decides to just plagiarize your product, you haven't really scaled your product yet.
Meta is not a company that makes products. They are an ad tech firm with a monopoly over social media. They are terrible at making social networking products and have been 15+ years. Wretched exec team and wretched company
Meta is now cloning Bluesky starter packs for Threads

“We did everything as the runbook says”. Declares the engineer staring at the graph telling them shit is broke.

my manifesto is a runbook for navigating risk and complexity of the more mundane variety.

not sure how long until i have a good first draft worth putting on line. maybe second quarter of next year.
i'm not doing a holiday display name because this year it's the season of websites. so many websites. version control. static content and a little bit of devops to start.

i guess i'll need a manifesto, too.

The right wing have been outmaneuvering us on recruitment, on planning/goals (Project 2025 is a fucking runbook for evil!), on reaching white people and men. We've been so confident in "the arc of history" that we've let the rightoids bend it BACKWARDS.

yea, part of the software development life cycle is defining scope of support and the processes thereof

embedding ways to quickly diagnose errors and having a runbook people can go through is also helpful (sometimes crucial) if devs decide they want to support their software in that way

IntuneAutomation is here!

A tool that brings together PowerShell scripts to help you automate common (and not-so-common) tasks in Intune.

Think compliance reports, app inventory, assignments, diagnostics, and more, all organized by category and ready to use locally or as a Azure Runbook.

I feel as though I should write a runbook for other maintainers who are in this situation to help guide them through the process of dealing with a situation like this.

Thinking back, I realize now that "what's next" was the prevailing unanswered question at several points throughout it.

Okay, this is admittedly really fuckin' cool. Atuin, the project behind that awesome little CLI history tool, just made a "Runbook" app. Kinda-sorta like Ansible, but visual?

It lets you run scripts and code-related processes right from your documentation.

This is gonna be A Thing for me, I think.

Something like that! This is what we have atm, kinda like a Jupyter notebook but with embedded terminals

bsky.app/profile/elli...

Definitely working hard to make it easy to go from shell history -> documentation/runbook -> executable workflow
we've been working hard on addressing early beta feedback for Atuin Desktop

in the past week

- dark mode (y'all kept asking)
- improved collaboration UX
- custom terminal fonts
- fixed several sync & performance issues

Looks like tRump really did read Project 2025, ok fine those around him read it, and they really have been treating it like a runbook.

Using azure automation accounts’ managed identity and using a runbook with powershell script to conduct an audit of user access/roles on sql server and their databases. Placing a trigger on this so it runs once a month automatically. Oh! It outputs the csv in an azure storage acc and container

“Alerts should always have a runbook” makes sense given an alert is for a known problem and offers a starting point for incidents. Likewise dashboards.
There’s a secondary benefit too: if you make someone create a runbook then you will reduce the number of alerts (because people are lazy)
