It's LIVE with the first three chapters!

Recursed is the story of Ordan, sidekick to the Wizard Bluebell. His task? Keep Bluebell from incinerating anything she shouldn't as they accompany the Halfling Griselda on a journey to find her god... so she can cuss him out.

Oh look. Open source software is poised to dominate yet another creative industry... in time.

It's never an easy road, or a short one, but open source wins when enough people take a serious interest. Bit by bit, I can totally see Godot and other projects becoming industry standards a la Blender.
TL;DR Unity -> Godot transition: after 13 years in unity, it took me 4-6 weeks of getting adjusted, and now i’ll never go back. it has quirks, like other engines. there’s bugs. but it’s free, basically equally capable, and well reported issues get fixed quicker than in unity (sometimes within hours)

Turns out someone thought my script was AI because I was too thorough when commenting my code. Here I am, a literal writer, sharing my script for other potential newbs, getting called out for "using AI" because I made things too clear.

Jesus.
I really hate that, as a total amateur in the coding space, I have to make disclaimers like, "No, I didn't use AI, I just suck. My code doesn't have an AI vibe. AI just codes like a fuckin' idiot."

I probably should have said, in Chapter 12 of Recursed, the party finds out what happens when a vampire who's clearly out of practice at seduction meets a Wizard who has only a passing familiarity with the concept.

Chapter 12 of Recursed, which I have just published, concludes the first major arc of my novel: purrfiction.io/read/998/EN/...

It's a bit of a long one, and it pays off some things I've been building up to, so I hope you enjoy it.

I have updated my live book word counting script for streamers to remove the Python package dependency. It's still not "perfect," but I would say it's much improved, and that the new version removes a layer of complexity by removing that dependency.

Okay, executive decision time. I want to be a bit more relaxed about my writing today, so it's happening offline.

So expect a new chapter in a few hours, I guess.
So, should I just do my writing offline today, or should I do another clicky clacky number go up stream? Is anyone finding those soothing or just... Nice to have open for a while?

The only thing accomplished by Google's Project Genie is, probably, giving a bunch of nerds headaches as they try to explain to money people that the generated "games" are, in fact:

* Not games
* Not actually 3D
* Not a replacement for [insert job here]
* Nowhere close to being commercially viable

Yeah like, no one *needs* a fancy 30 inch Wacom tablet/display thing to make art. Now we almost all WANT one, even those of us who don't ever draw, because that's just a cool thing you know? But you don't need one.

What? I like owning cool hardware that I barely ever use. It's a problem.
"human art is only for the rich and privileged"

My Dude/Dudette... A pencil costs like 50 cents and scrap paper is EVERYWHERE

What they mean is "I need AI to make art because I can't be bothered to practice"

or

Or "I'm a tech bro who wants to seem cultured but I don't understand art/creativity"

Some of the most popular gifs/videos of the 00s were stick figures kicking the ever-loving crap out of each other, or rebelling against the tyrannical dictates of their own animator.

Art made with real feeling can make you root for a goddamned stick figure. Or Minecraft Steve. Or fucking Pac-Man.

Humility is overrated.

There's a solid bit of writing here. I said what I said.
Now this is an excerpt from the upcoming Chapter 13 (which I'll most likely edit and publish in a couple of days) but I had so much fun writing this bit that I wanted to share it now.

Yes, it's a silly riff on "you don't want this smoke."

So far my ratio of taking writing prompts "seriously" vs. "making up some fantasy bullshit" is like 0-3.
As the Gartog the Berserker felt his rage build inside him, as his soul became steel and his axe let off steam, he let loose the war cry that had wet a thousand trousers:

"CHOO CHOO, MOTHERFUCKERS!"

When asked, he could never say what it meant. Only that it boiled inside him until it came out.

Dear Lord, I've seen what you've done for Bitcoin, Microsoft, and Adobe. Please, pour the same blessings down on Roblox and... And this is very important so please pay attention...

NOT ME.
Roblox has published its financial results for Q4 and its fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, reporting massive gains in revenue and bookings that "significantly exceeded" its guidance and long-term targets

And yes, sometimes I'll write a whole chapter to set up one joke. This wasn't one of those cases, but I've actually done it already.

Recursed Chapter 11 is out, and in it, we all learn an important lesson: It's not larceny if you're collecting evidence.

More writing. More number go up. More clicky clacky sounds as I type. This novel isn't going to write itself.

Okay, there were some delays in getting the new laptop fan delivered, and it seems to work well enough. But the *really* big difference seems to have come from getting the thermal paste redone.

I did the CPU stress test again, and the laptop itself didn't heat up nearly as much.
