#SJM’s
Yeah, I thought he was really good. We can't just keep stacking central mids, though. On the assumption that 3 or 4 of them are going to be injured. We've already got 7 of them. I thought Bogarde was pretty good. What we really lacked was any attacking options on the bench. And SJM'S drive.

What now?

As a teen I used to be an avid reader, but during my university years I lost the will to read a lot because of the mandatory readings. I finally got in a reading flow again about two weeks ago. Through friends and TikTok I started reading SJM‘s ACOTAR …

Romantic book series following ONE couple, preferably fantasy or historical

Book series I’ve already read that fit this: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon; A Court of Thorns and Roses by SJM. I’ve tried reading SJM’s other series and I don’t like them. I’ve also read …

I really appreciate SJM's portrayal of healthy and supportive same-sex friendships that are def not gay, in any way, even a little bit

But largely this is about books I personally dislike (fourth wing, SJM’s ouevre etc.) but see panned, and it’s like: I think you are feeling disdain as a way to make yourself feel superior and THAT is largely misogyny

Everyone I’ve talked to that like SJM’s work have agreed that acotar isn’t really good and said book 2 is where things really take off. But I don’t have it in me to continue a series that takes well over 400 pages to get interesting 😬

it feels like SJM's whole oeuvre is *that*. noncon and brainwashing is fine, but it should be labeled as fetish content.

and it pervades the romantasy genre too. dangerous crow boy could care about consent as much as he cares about destroying plastic, but the "mating bond" compels him.

I prefer your Villa mug tbh, Matt. You can spot SJM's celebration a mile off!

I haven’t read any SJM’s work but I vaguely remember older fantasy books mentioning in the acknowledgements section or whatever where some of the mythological inspirations were?? Or at least this would come up on a fan webpage. What the hell is going on

And specifically in SJM's case extremely racist and culturally appropriative theft of pre-Christian Hibernian themes, ideas, names and characters!

Between all of SJM's small artists losing their licences for fan work and the continued pushing of ACOTAR 6, I think I'm demoting her books to the downstairs bookshelf in favour of our queen, Ali Hazelwood.

Jury's out on if she'll be demoted further to second-hand buys. I'm leaning towards yes.

You could not pay me to try and read SJM's books anymore, sorry 😔🙏

I’ve never had this much of an issue before with a Fairyloot presale, not even with SJM’s CC series.

totally! one of my fav romantasy series at the moment is Lady of Darkness by Melissa K. Roehrich. I read the whole series in like 2-3 weeks in 2023, totally recommend (though I hear people found it similar to SJM's Assassin's blade series but I haven't read that so I can't say)

ive given myself an extra day from what i planned bc i finished emily wilde today but im just hoping that since acotar came out when sjm's writing was bearable that it won't take Too long

it's in my TBR too, I've been too scared to read any of SJM's books because of how much hype there is around them. Looking forward to see what you think of it!!

i love the plot line but i am ...not a fan of SJM's writing style ngl 🫣 she cannot edit herself and just talks in circles so everything is too repetitive to keep track of. like i get lost in useless details about nothing of importance and then don't catch when something important actually happens

Recently finished reading book 2 of the #CrescentCity series. I’m leaning towards not reading book 3. I typically love all of #SJM’s work… So should I reconsider??? #BookSky

when i finish sjm’s crescent city series (almost done with cc2), i’m going to re-experience the emotional trauma i got from reading manacled 🥲

ohh another raf/xav main that plays hsr/sims and enjoys shoujo manga (plus a fellow viet!!) 😭

throne of glass is sjm's best work tbh and i hope you enjoy it!

Books like Fire by Kristin Cashore?

Like everyone else, ACOTAR recently got me back into reading. I used to devour books as a kid, but at some point I stopped reading as much. But I read all of SJM’s work last year, and I absolutely love them. They really got me …

I'm autistic. When I try a new author, I start at the beginning. My teenage niece loves SJM so I said I would try them. I don't think young adult fantasy is for me. I like SJM's plotting and she's good for an adrenaline spike every 50 pages, but the books are way too long.
August 28, 2025 at 1:40 AM
Oh noooo why hate reading? 😬
😅 I've actually never read it. I read the ACOTAR trilogy and loved it. I ... know I read books 4 & 5, iirc thought they were ok but not as good. Haven't read any of SJM's other stuff.
Crescent City(?) ... I DNF'd cuz it's been a while but it seemed modern? Maybe?

**CC2 SPOILERS!!!***

The moment where Bryce enters the ACOTAR Realm and we realize that all SJM’s universes can be connected. I vividly remember reading that at 2am, forcing myself to NOT scream and reading the page and chapter like 10 times to make sure I wasn’t going insane.
August 26, 2025 at 1:08 AM
Yep. You can dislike SJM’s work all you want but if fascists liked it they wouldn’t ban it.
