Pride Flag Fight, Part II:

A new bill gives lawmakers veto power over which flags local governments can display.

It's a direct response to SLC's workaround to last year's Pride flag ban.

Read how Utah's "local control" crowd wants control over local flags:

PIDs are new and relatively are in Utah, but the development duo behind SLC's Post District is seeking one as they work to reimagine its neighboring block:

How an incentive used in downtown revitalization could help change Salt Lake's Granary District
A new tool similar to what Utah Jazz owners received for development could help a massive overhaul near downtown.

I have a lot of beef with the SLC’s mayor & government. They are moderate liberals with all that entails, both good and bad. They tend to do the minimum. People are shocked that Utah has liberals, but we also have leftists & progressives.

But this is important and makes me a little bit proud.

Returning to one of my favorite photo adventures from last year for #Stunday: an otherwise pleasant but nondescript walk through SLC's Farmington Bay NWR, done up by absolutely perfect evening light (and strategically placed ducks).

The SoCal Main Street below is basically what SLC’s Sugar House was until the mid 2000s. Are SLC people really nostalgic of that kind of place?

SLC's lowest snowfall for a season is 14.3 inches (interestingly enough from 1933-1934, the era the previous heat record came from). We are currently stuck at 0.1 inches

Trevor Lee now wants to dictate that only the almighty legislature has the power to name streets? #utpol

Some #utpol news in the #SLC Council meeting. A record number of proposed bills filed before the session starts is expected this year.

SLC's policy expert says SLC is already tracking 143 bills. Big topics: Tax proposals (including caps on budget increases), land use (more starter homes, etc)

We have a bigot state rep attempting to rename SLC's Harvy Milk Blvd after Charlie Kirk. And while I hope he's unsuccessful, I do find some amusement that they want to honor Kirk with the gayest street in the city. Changing the name doesn't change the street, which is full of queer affirming spaces.

Love SLC’s specific brand of “free send cold, but also so polluted that the fog is smog and your allergies get triggered” 🙃

One of the most narratively unsatisfying parts of SLC’s run is the cast talking around Jen’s fraud charges in S3. Yet Mary ducked from the cult rumors in S2, returned like nothing happened in S4, and many fans are content with that being as far as it goes. Why? There’s so much there!

Social worker Kate Kowalczik has fond memories of her local video store and wanted to give back to “folks who don't have a lot of resources.” Thus, SLC’s first tiny free Blockbuster.
Salt Lake City’s 1st Free Blockbuster is a fun antidote to streaming sticker shock
Price hikes and password sharing crackdowns have customers reconsidering how much they’re willing to spend on streaming services. But physical media isn’t dead, and “take a movie, leave a movie” is…

The 1890-1891 water year also started with a strong October before little precip until January. So if history does repeat itself, we could be in for a wet March. SLC's all-time March record was set in 1891 (4.66 in.) #utwx
