#SSD‘s
I'm looking for a storage upgrade for Teen the Younger's computer and even "old" stuff like SATA SSD's are more expensive than I think they should be. It's making spinning platters look a lot more attractive.

Renting Your Next Computer?? (Or Why It’s Hard to Be Optimistic About Tech Now)
It’s not as far-fetched as it may sound to many of us who have owned our own computer hardware for years (going back to the 1980’s for me)… the price of RAM and soon the price of SSD’s are skyrocketing because of the demands of artificial intelligence, and that’s already having implications for the pricing of personal computers.  So, could Bezos and other tech leaders' dreams of us being locked into subscription-based models for computing come true?

Yeah, 2.5 inch SSD's are nowhere near the price that's being asked for right now.

Think it's time to put a red line on this, if prices go up past it, then certain persons need to be dealt with...

Depending on the PC I'd say a new PC would be cheaper/easier, especially given part pricing for things like Ram and SSD's lately.

the AI industry ruining personal computing is a very "Roman empire" kind of thing. Like the assumption was that tech will get better and cheaper and here I am planning to put hard drives in my old computer case with (used) SSD's from a few years ago. Like medieval market stalls in Trajan's palace

So really, think it's time to just end the entire free advertising for said tech companies like Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung for this mess. These AI companies aren't even using said HBM etc ram they're buying, it's in a warehouse so make DDR5 dimms instead and consumer SSD's.

When I moved the next directory to a proper volume, but I was too lazy to create an intermediate stuff so I just deleted it all. Not a good idea for my SSD's health. But whatever, now I can have root snapshots.

Yer SSD's got the zoomies ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ
Careful it doesn't chew on your bootloader

That fact that external SSD’s are still so expensive makes me fucking rage.
January 9, 2026 at 11:20 PM
If you want to buy me a 20tb SSD, I'll take it, but SSD'S are def out of my price range with the amount of data I am storing. Got 20 TB (one 4 and one 16) in external drives and I am down to about 2 1/2 TB left.

So, chkdsk on a 16 TB external drive took a little less than a day.

Difficult to draw conclusions without referring to the literature (is there any?); initial thoughts are it seems to good to be true. But so did SSD's when they first arrived. Let's see.

was going to check an SSD's authenticity on a laptop that was handed to my sister for her to switch to after upgrading an older laptop with said SSD and additional 4GB of RAM that will be given away to one of our cousins. this is my first impression of Huawei laptops and i don't like it

if you do the math; you would lose far more money than saving if you did that. i would recommend actual SSD's like Western Digital, SanDisk or Sony brands (as examples). 1TB and 2TB are not too expensive but pricey for anyone on a tight budget, HOWEVER, they're an amazing investment when cared for.

it could still be the ssd's fault from that one error i got one time but i haven't gotten it since. i should install something on the ssd windows is on and see if it still has the problem actually

#Tweakers

WTF! This time last year, I got the same SSD's for $90. Now it's more than twice the price I paid. Ugh.

There is a little doohickey you can plug into the m2 port to connect regular sata ssd's though

A full wipe and restore, trans get the SSD’s, do a fresh install. Probably a day project.

I need my laptop
