Even though Chuck voted no, he still very likely orchestrated this. They had a meeting, gamed this out, and decided to give up. They then selected 8 senators who were either going to retire or are not up for election this cycle. That was done intentionally to shield them from our wrath.

At this point, I don't know why we get our hopes up they'll do anything for the people. Both sides are under the control of their donors. The eight that bowed down were those with nothing to lose, meaning they were selected to do the bidding of the rest. Always follow the money.

especially at public universities, the breadth of culture that a randomly selected freshman has been exposed to varies wildly - i would guess maybe the top 5-10% have familiarity with at least a few major western philosophers but in some cases, they might be hearing about TS Eliot for the first time

Especially with the reports that they had planned this for awhile and waited until after the election to do this, and that there are a number of dems who planned to capitulate so they just selected the 8 that weren’t seeking reelection/had no upcoming election under cave-happy Schumer.
