I'm showing my wife Tampopo and it's great that she automatically identifies with what the movie is conveying.

9) Tampopo

Erika showed me this tonight, and I'm still stunlocked by the scene where a couple essentially did cumsharing but with an egg yolk.

The movie Tampopo literally starts out as though it was a Spaghetti Western. A Ramen Western, if you will

Watched Tampopo last night and driven only by a desire to eat ramen now.

58.) Supermarket Woman (1996) [REWATCH]

Red's movie night

My 2nd favorite Itami after Tampopo. Partially it expands on the themes of that film with how important food and the people who craft and sell it is. Also, one of the worst things an artisan can do is refuse to teach others their craft.

Supermarket Woman and Tampopo are guaranteed to make you feel better after a long day, or week.

I promise you that much.

You may even cry.

One thing remains consistent in Juzo Itami's films- he respects art and especially food; Supermarket Woman & Tampopo go into such meticulous detail on how important food culture is for people, and why freshness and integrity are important to sell and enjoy it. No one directs that better than Itami.

Supermarket Woman (1996) REWATCH

Juzo Itami's feel-good movies always involve food in some way, with this & Tampopo being my favs. A delicate exercise in supermarket commerce and logistics, with Itami's constant theming of love for people & the business at hand. Makes for a good break from reality.

I am happy to amend my statement: “Tampopo, where food is, among other things, sex.”

Omurice lore: it has a reputation for being incredibly difficult because of how famous the "folded and cut omelet" style is in the west. This was invented for the movie tampopo in the 80s and tastes the same as a regular ass omelet, which a lot restaurants in Japan do instead.

*Me recommending Tampopo (1985) to someone* Yeah! It's a fun and super cute movie! You should check it out!...................um....... but I should preface that there is one scene involving an egg yolk that's..... weird, and I'm sorry....... but the rest of the movie is great!!

Tampopo instantly became one of my favorite movies. For only being a little less than 2 hours long it feels like a ton happens with all of the different vignettes, but the movie never really loses focus. It feels like everything that movie shows off serves a singular purpose of painting a picture.
