#WakeBoats
A group of residents in the East Bay of #GreaterSudbury's Long Lake has submitted a petition to CGS, asking that #WakeBoats be barred from their part of the lake. One woman with whom I spoke said she has had to spend $$$ to keep her home from slipping into LL.

Wakeboats are turning inland lakes into summertime surf spots. A new study explores the possible consequences of that excess chop.
A Debate over Wakes in the Land of 10,000 Lakes - Eos
Wakeboats are turning Minnesota’s lakes into summertime surf spots, but the artificial chop can shake up the lake bed, too. New wake data can help communities plan for responsible recreation.

U of MN “research team released simple recommendations based on their findings.

1) all recreational powerboats should operate in at least 10 feet of water to minimize disturbances

2) wakeboats, when used for surfing, need 20 feet of water to avoid stirring up sediments & altering the ecosystem.”

Have you seen a wakeboat on your lake? They create ocean-sized waves for wakeboarding. And for many, current rules on wakeboats may not go far enough to ease concerns about safe recreation and impacts on aquatic environments. Loons and their nests may especially be at risk.

Hello all! We live in a small town in rural WI and our town is being sued because we put an ordinance in place to protect our lakes, and those who use them, from wakeboats.
Fortunately our cause was taken up by an amazing organization! Thank you!

Burn a half a dozen of the wakeboats to the waterline and I bet the problem is much reduced

Wakeboats and racing powerboats are also highly unnecessary but far more rare, so they get more of a shrug.

I love sailboats and love racing them. Engines should only be used when necessary for safety. A skilled sailor can rock a small boat in no wind, propelling it forward.
