The colouring here is inspired by that of the willow ptarmigan.
Its plumage seemed perfect for Yutyrannus, with the bright red highlights above its eyes serving as a perfect analogue for yutyrannus's horns :)

with a holotype coming in at 9 metres in length and weighing over 1,400kg, these glorious creatures would have been quite the sight to behold.

Most of my artwork relies on colours and filters to carry the bulk of my rendering, so I wanted to do something in black and white. Also wanted to do some spooky art of my yuty in the snow so perfect opportunity

My favorite thing about the World trilogy though was that they actually treated the dinosaurs as living, breathing things. Instead of just movie monsters. Rebirth throws all of that away just to "put things back to basics."

Also fuck yes with Yutyrannus.

Now, I will say that this isn't true for every dino, but the more we learn about prehistoric life, and find better preserved fossils, the more we can understand about the ones we have less info on.
Dino like Yutyrannus helped us realized T.Rex had feathers after all.

The animated short film “Tears of the Mountain” has perhaps my favorite depiction of Yutyrannus, but I am also quite fond of these pieces of paleoart by Mark Witton.
Two Yutyrannus playing in the snow, one leaping up to startle the other, kicking up fresh fallen snow. The piece is inspired by a Charles R Knight sketch of two Tyrannosaurus roughhousing in a similar manner. A Yutyrannus feeds on their latest kill. Below them a group of Sinosauropteryx try to pick at bits of the carcass or are otherwise waiting for the larger predator to finish so they can pick off what’s left.

Yutyrannus is my favorite dinosaur. Cold Adapted dinos are already utterly fascinating to me since most don’t know that Dinosaurs lived in colder biomes. But also being such a large Tyrannosauroid, there’s something almost ethereal about the image of this feathered tyrant being at home in the cold…
