lol had to clean my AbeBooks saved for later out again because I hit the limit... when I was like "I think I'll get into nonfiction" during covid, I REALLY got into nonfiction

On another note for some reason this particular edition seems a bit hard to find online. The one in the photo is $16 with shipping on Abebooks which seems slightly insane. I’m going to check Half Price Books and some other places.

Thank you. Just ordered it from Abebooks

Ah typical Abebooks order - some items better than described, one much worse.

Put out an AbeBooks want for this. If anyone happens to have this edition or knows someone who does send it my way.
Damn. It is so hard to find the 2017 reprints of Tanith Lee's Wars of Vis trilogy.
Anackire is practically nonexistent, even used copies.

It's on 23 platforms other than Amazon (including FNAC and AbeBooks in France). And yet 85% of global sales have come just from Amazon.

BTW, Goodreads is a subsidiary of Amazon. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodreads

My book is available from 25 different non-Amazon retailers around the world. In France it is available at FNAC and AbeBooks.

And yet 85% of my global sales have been via Amazon. That is the reality of the world in which we were living. If I did not sell my book on Amazon, nobody would see it.

Self-publishing is the second modern development to kill off a sideline of mine. In the 1990s I took over a book-finding agency, but ABeBooks squashed that. So I changed the business to a literary agency, and along came s/p. But it's a good thing in many ways, cutting out commercial gatekeeping.

Thank you, internet. I needed to end the day with a good laugh.

(I also went looking for a physical copy of the documentary Comic Book Confidential, and boy, it's just not my night.)

That's fair, I just wanted to yell about libraries. The overdrive integration on my Kobo is really nice though, can check out books without rolling off the couch.

For meatspace copies, you can buy most of these used for real cheap. Like 3-5 bucks a pop for a softcover. Alibris and AbeBooks

Quit all things Amazon... including Goodreads, Whole Foods, Zappos, AbeBooks, Ring, Alexa, Kindle....
Amazon released a trailer for its Melania Trump documentary.

A documentary that cost the company $40 MILLION FOR THE RIGHTS ALONE & will undoubtedly make the Trump family richer.

This deal is just another example of corporations entangling in Trump's pay-to-play schemes.

…they were bought by 5m publish in 2012, and there doesn’t seem to be this book available via 5m publishing, but it looks as if 2nd hand copies are available reasonably cheaply at a quick glance, found £2.50 via AbeBooks

new hobby: going to abebooks and pressing add to cart on every single book about the QE2.

Bill Watterson ran off some copies of this at the time, and sent them, signed, out to editors he knew. There was one on sale on abebooks a few years ago - it went for something like $30,000. It would have been my $30,000 if I had known in time.

Love AbeBooks but we have several local shops around that I haven’t given up on, yet. With how slowly I read, I’m in no rush. Haha.

The saddest paragraph pair on Wikipedia:

In June 2008 AbeBooks was awarded the British Columbia Technology Industry Association Impact Award[7] for Leadership in Social Responsibility for its charitable activities and literacy initiatives.

In December 2008, the company was sold to Amazon

I use ebay a lot. Can you explain why it's bad? (I guess AbeBooks is very very bad too).

Am sad to report that Abebooks is owned by Amazon, I think.
