I love how each of these units has its own wee lawn instead of a car parking space. With a single mountain looming in the background beneath a clear, blue sky, a row of abandoned homes sits in a field of sand and brush. The homes, all shades of brown and tan, are in varying states of disrepair. Electric and telephone wires stretch across the center of the frame, showing that the effort was made to bring the modern world out here once before Behind a fence and bush that are blurred in the foreground, among the somewhat broken down homes sits a white home that might be inhabited - a car parked out in front. It has a tall tv antenna on top of it. The sky is mostly clear and late-afternoon blue with some distant white clouds Brush in the foreground and a front lawn of sand frames a long one-story white motel that ends in a 90 degree angle near the middle of the frame. The motel is still in operation though the occupied rooms are to the left, out of frame. The late afternoon sky is gradually filling in with high, thin white clouds A shuttered cafe stands next to an empty road in Death Valley Junction, CA. Its white paint has begin to give way to time and chip away. The blue-trimmed windows are dusty, shades drawn on the inside blocking further views. The sky overhead is half cloudy half blue.
