My vacation project was to build an anti-Platonic agentic design language, enacted in Lean 4. Category-theoretic definitions lock in a process ontology.

Gaits and grasps define interaction; seams are the derived results.

I suspect naive Platonism entrains what people call “slop.”

Our Scalextric Club is up and running. Year 9 students are working towards entry in the Scalextric4Schools competition, where they design, build, and race their own slot cars. Pupils have been experimenting with 3D scanning, CAD, and 3D printing as part of the process. #ScalextricClub

(1/9/26) Klonoa: Empire of Dreams

A bite-sized Klonoa adventure on the GBA! Confront nightmarish monsters and an irate emperor's heart in a land where dreaming is taboo!

Despite late-game hiccups and muted presentation, the core appeal of Klonoa's platforming and atmosphere still remains.
One thing that the Klonoa games always seem to impress me on is the ability to establish a solid platforming core early on, then build on it by adding new rules and object types over time to construct incredibly creative level design. Empire of Dreams is forced to ditch the 2.5-D angle that made the series' brand of platforming stick out in the beginning, but instead kept me invested through the many uses of Klonoa's Wind Bullet and interacting with ever-evolving obstacles. Examples include arrows that redirect thrown enemies and boxes you can pick up and stick to walls. The presentation and soundtrack aren't quite on the same memorable, dreamy vibe I've come to expect from other Klonoa games; I feel like the cutscenes are a bit too sterile for the scale its story wants. But they do a serviceable job. At the very least I'm impressed with the sprite-scaling they implement for the boss levels, making them feel like grand encounters. What's not grand is some of the airboard and autoscroller levels, hahaha. The first half of 'em are fun enough, but the latter batch feel like they rely on too many "gotcha" moments in the level design to be consistently fun. Especially if you want to grab all the Dream Stones. Regardless, Empire of Dreams is a pretty good translation of Klonoa's unique platforming style on a smaller scale. It's a good game to spend an afternoon with. Here's hoping Dream Champ Tournament ends up on NSO down the line as well!

Arle and Carbuncle if they got Americanized
The depicted Arle Nadja design diverges notably from her original Japanese look. The Americanized version seems to strive for a more "mature" aesthetic, with a taller, more athletic build, broader shoulders, and a more angular face. Her hair is depicted as a long ponytail, whereas she usually has a spiky, shorter hairstyle. Her overall outfit looks a bit more like a superhero costume, rather than a whimsical mage's dress. Carbuncle is also significantly altered. Instead of his simplistic, almost formless design, he's given a more bunny-like appearance with a defined body shape and long ears with pink insides. While the gem on his forehead remains, its presence also deviates from the original minimalistic design.

anyone who is experienced with web, i highly recommend you to build one mobile app using native technologies. it's actually kinda crazy how many fundamental design differences there are between building for web and mobile. you'll come out of it with a better appreciation for user interface design

The hardest part of this build is masking and painting the teeny tiny exposed "frame" and accent areas throughout the body. But I think I did a well enough job and the result is worth it.

I decided to keep the leg fins out to compliment the kit feminine aesthetic. I also modified the handle of the Composite Shield Booster a bit so that the kit can hold it a little less awkwardly The "Zeon Alive!!" design is really made for large surfaces

Well, you know, people don't fully care about the fights between our governments, right? People care about whether they can afford a place to live, and so that's where I'm going to start first. So I'm pro housing, like, bottom line, I'm pro housing, and Vancouver needs to build a lot more of it, and a lot faster, especially affordable and non market housing. But we can't just dismiss, right, people's fears about change. We can't just say that, you know, we have to acknowledge that growth, growth really does affect people's sense of home, and that deserves respect. So the real question around these dense, you know, this density, and it's like the multi unit family and tower, is it's not really like a tower or no tower. It's about what's being built for whom, and how do we take communities along in the conversation? (Amanda Burrows 2/2) And so density works best when people understand why it's needed and it needs to come with real assurance. So stronger renter protections, our local services, our green space, design that can enhance our neighbourhood character. You know that's so often like where people are afraid of their character being erased. So I support growth that builds housing people can actually afford and strengthen its communities. So I will always push back on development if it displaces residents or ignores the people who already live there. But let's come back together and we am pro housing. We need to build the housing and we can't fight amongst our governments to do it. People don't care about that. People care about affordability, and that's what I'm here to do as mayor.
