#ethnocentrism
You need to mind your store. You’ll be here too.

UK is ramping up their racism and ethnocentrism. So is France, Germany

Importantly we don’t hate you. I don’t say those Goddamn French.

I’m not your enemy. U.S. living in poverty sounds like your goal.

You can try.

Anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies intensify across Europe
In the past year, tens of thousands hostile to immigrants marched through London chanting “send them home!”

80+ years of non-stop propaganda and ethnocentrism can lead to people believing their country is the center of the world and everything is about them. The shock with reality can be rough.

Today’s ICE policy is the embodiment of the GOP’s fearful ethnocentrism. Even breaking in an American’s door on TV, and violently kidnapping him while traumatizing his 7yo grandson is not opening their eyes to it. The whole story is heartbreakingly un-American.

New — I wrote about ChongLy Scott Thao, the elderly Hmong American wrongly arrested and forced out of his home by ICE in his underwear during the punishing Minnesota winter, what witnesses saw, and DHS's racist claim that he fit the description of another Asian man they were looking for.

My story:
Behind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his home
DHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

Church protests won’t help the GOP see the embodiment of their fearful ethnocentrism. This ICE policy will be recorded as overwhelmingly un-Christian. Read the whole story of what happened to Mr. Thao. He is one American of far too many human beings to suffer under it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the real source of Covid were someone working for Trump. Chinese people and all Asians just became racial scapegoats entrenching racism, xenophobia, ethnocentrism, prejudice, and discrimination.

If Canadians dropped the ethnocentrism and propaganda down a notch it definitely wouldn’t be terrible. The firmware installed and lack of history in the country I have serious concerns about. I think privacy oversight is a must there.

The shrinking levels of white ethnocentrism in the
@electionstudies.bsky.social Cumulative Datafile conceal a pretty striking partisan effect: since around 2012 very low ethnocentrism among white Democrats, but the opposite effect among other Democrats.

I think I made this point sufficiently clear in my essay, so it's hard to know how Reno missed it. But let me clarify the central point: postliberal politics applies to the nation as a whole the kind of cultural ethnocentrism that postliberal theology applied to the church.

It is widely shared among their demographic cohort, which speaks both to the insularity of the class of elites and the almost stunning ignorance and incuriosity of that class. But I suppose if they lacked ethnocentrism and could envision perspectives beyond their own, they wouldn't be who they are.
At a deep theoretical level, Stephen Miller and JD Vance think their view that immigrants threaten social solidarity is widely shared. But what's now happening is MAGA is driving native-born Americans to show solidarity with immigrants. Now Miller is trying to break that up w/coercion and violence.
Terror is essential to Miller's project. It's designed to dissuade us from showing solidarity with the immigrants getting removed. Stand in the way of ethnic cleansing and you risk violence yourself.

Unfortunately ethnocentrism is a human flaw and not just an American one.

human societies, at least the more advanced cultures, have rarely offered the individual anything but imperialism, racism, and ethnocentrism for dealing with "other" cultures.

As in every racism, every ethnocentrism…a discourse on birth and on nature, a phúsis of genealogy…regulates, in the final analysis, the movement of each opposition: repulsion and attraction, disagreement and accord, war and peace, hatred and friendship.…This phúsis comprises everything…

Living in the US doesn’t change a dime with facts. That’s ethnocentrism. The army is well equipped yes. Your point is to not resist ? Really ?

bro said "racism? nah, internationalism, bitch"
January 15, 2026 at 2:09 AM
Yes my opinions are formed around the environment and culture that I live in. So by definition everyone is ethnocentrism.

The fact of the matter is the US is already “near” them. The US is a global nation and has obligations to its self and allies to maintain strength in the Arctic.

America is a deeply divided country, with good and bad people everywhere. Western Washington is mostly progressive, although it has its pockets. But overall, I found a very different mindset in terms of international awareness and ethnocentrism.

The belief that any (often non-Western) ppl are/must be incapable of independent thought and agency, and any opposition to their government must be *created* out of thin air by whichever greater world power you dislike the most, is a lazy and uintelligent mix of social darwinism and ethnocentrism.

Ethnocentrism is a very common social phenomenon that can be found in so many communities. Realizing why it’s a crutch for the ego but causes bad thinking is a bitter pill to swallow.

That would require the hard task of Americans to think of the feelings of people outside of America. And most don't. They only think of themselves. The vapid ethnocentrism mixed with narcissism allows them to think they are the only people that matter on planet Earth.

As a liberal, few things are more disheartening than watching someone curate a progressive public persona while privately engaging in racial stereotyping and Islamophobia. Liberal ethnocentrism in action.

I had to learn the term ethnocentrism in just about every college class I ever went to.

People don't understand how fcked the Br*nton T*rrant thing was bc ethnocentrism or st, especially not K*wiF, who seemed to think it was a big joke, which is why I'm so dubious of that place.

Unfortunately for Chr*stchurch, it's full of white supremac*sts.

Today was wild. Gave training in pancreatic cancer research, meetings on software upgrades and getting a student a W-9 form, taught research ethics, logical fallacies, ethnocentrism, & BBQ origins. Met new research students for glioblastoma. Rejected a gen ed class proposal taught by the president.
